Thomas Wentworth 1st Earl Strafford 1672-1739

Before 17th September 1672 Thomas Wentworth 1st Earl Strafford was born to William Wentworth of Northgatehead [aged 45] and Isabella Apsley.

Before 17th September 1672 [his father] William Wentworth of Northgatehead [aged 45] and [his mother] Isabella Apsley were married.

Around 1687 Thomas Wentworth 1st Earl Strafford [aged 14] was appointed Page of Honour to Mary of Modena Queen Consort England Scotland and Ireland [aged 28].

On 31st December 1688 Thomas Wentworth 1st Earl Strafford [aged 16] was commissioned Cornet in Colchester's Regiment of Horse.

In 1693 [his father] William Wentworth of Northgatehead [aged 66] died.

On 29th June 1711 Thomas Wentworth 1st Earl Strafford [aged 38] was created 1st Earl Strafford.

On 6th September 1711 Thomas Wentworth 1st Earl Strafford [aged 38] and Anne Johnson Countess Strafford were married. She by marriage Countess Strafford. The marriage was described as both advantageous and happy: while Anne brought him a dowry rumoured to be £60000, her letters show their deep mutual affection.

In 1720 [his daughter] Henrietta Wentworth was born to Thomas Wentworth 1st Earl Strafford [aged 47] and [his wife] Anne Johnson Countess Strafford. She married Henry Vernon and had issue.

On 17th March 1722 [his son] William Wentworth 2nd Earl Strafford was born to Thomas Wentworth 1st Earl Strafford [aged 49] and [his wife] Anne Johnson Countess Strafford. He married 1741 Anne Campbell Countess Strafford, daughter of John Campbell 2nd Duke Argyll and Jane Warburton Duchess of Argyll.

On 2nd June 1722 [his brother-in-law] John Arundell 4th Baron Arundell [aged 21] and [his sister] Elizabeth Wentworth were married. She by marriage Baroness Arundel Trerice in Cornwall.

On 8th October 1729 [his daughter] Anne Wentworth was born to Thomas Wentworth 1st Earl Strafford [aged 57] and [his wife] Anne Johnson Countess Strafford. She married 1733 William James Conolly and had issue.

In 1733 [his son-in-law] William James Conolly and Anne Wentworth [aged 3] were married. She the daughter of Thomas Wentworth 1st Earl Strafford [aged 60] and Anne Johnson Countess Strafford.

On 15th November 1739 Thomas Wentworth 1st Earl Strafford [aged 67] died. He had suffered poor health for a number of years. His son William [aged 17] succeeded 2nd Earl Strafford.

[his daughter] Lucy Wentworth was born to Thomas Wentworth 1st Earl Strafford and Anne Johnson Countess Strafford. She married 13th February 1747 George Howard and had issue.
