John Dunbar 1st Earl of Moray 1342-1391

Before 1338 [his father] Patrick Dunbar 9th Earl March [aged 52] and [his mother] Agnes "Black Agnes" Randolph Countess March [aged 25] were married. She by marriage Countess Dunbar aka March 1C. The difference in their ages was 27 years. She the daughter of [his grandfather] Thomas Randolph 1st Earl of Moray and [his grandmother] Isabella Stewart Countess Moray. They were fifth cousins.

In 1342 John Dunbar 1st Earl of Moray was born to Patrick Dunbar 9th Earl March [aged 57] and Agnes "Black Agnes" Randolph Countess March [aged 30].

In 1369 [his mother] Agnes "Black Agnes" Randolph Countess March [aged 57] died.

In 1369 [his father] Patrick Dunbar 9th Earl March [aged 84] died. His son [his brother] George [aged 31] succeeded 10th Earl Dunbar aka March 1C.

Before 1370 [his brother] George Dunbar 10th Earl March [aged 31] and [his sister-in-law] Christina Wyntoun Countess Dunbar were married. He the son of [his father] Patrick Dunbar 9th Earl March and [his mother] Agnes "Black Agnes" Randolph Countess March. They were second cousin twice removed.

Before 1371 John Dunbar 1st Earl of Moray [aged 28] and Marjorie Stewart Countess Moray [aged 22] were married. She the daughter of King Robert II of Scotland [aged 54] and Elizabeth Mure Queen Consort Scotland. He the son of Patrick Dunbar 9th Earl March and Agnes "Black Agnes" Randolph Countess March. They were half third cousins. She a great x 4 granddaughter of King John of England.

Around 1371 [his son] Thomas Dunbar 2nd Earl of Moray was born to John Dunbar 1st Earl of Moray [aged 29] and [his wife] Marjorie Stewart Countess Moray [aged 23].

In 1374 John Dunbar 1st Earl of Moray [aged 32] was created 4th Earl Moray. [his wife] Marjorie Stewart Countess Moray [aged 26] by marriage Countess Moray. He was a nephew of the previous Earl of Moray [his uncle] John Randolph 3rd Earl of Moray who was brother of his mother [his aunt] Isabella Randolph.

In 1381 [his brother-in-law] Robert Stewart 1st Duke Albany [aged 41] and Muriella Keith Duchess Albany [aged 23] were married. He the son of [his father-in-law] King Robert II of Scotland [aged 64] and Elizabeth Mure Queen Consort Scotland.

On 24 or 25th February 1382 [his brother-in-law] Alexander "The Wolf of Badenoch" Stewart 3rd Earl Buchan [aged 39] and Euphemia 6th Countess of Ross were married. He by marriage Earl Ross. She the daughter of William 5th Earl Ross. He the son of [his father-in-law] King Robert II of Scotland [aged 65] and Elizabeth Mure Queen Consort Scotland. They were second cousin once removed. He a great x 4 grandson of King John of England.

Before March 1386 [his brother-in-law] David Stewart 3rd Earl Strathearn 1st Earl Caithness [aged 30] and Eupheme Lindsay Countess Strathearn Caithness [aged 24] were married. She by marriage Countess Caithness. He the son of [his father-in-law] King Robert II of Scotland [aged 69] and Euphemia Ross Queen Consort Scotland.

Around March 1386 [his brother-in-law] David Stewart 3rd Earl Strathearn 1st Earl Caithness [aged 30] died. His daughter Eupheme succeeded 2nd Countess Strathearn, 2nd Countess Caithness.

Before 1387 David Lindsay 1st Earl Crawford [aged 26] and [his sister-in-law] Elizabeth Stewart Countess Crawford [aged 24] were married. She the daughter of [his father-in-law] King Robert II of Scotland [aged 70] and Euphemia Ross Queen Consort Scotland. They were half first cousin once removed. She a great x 4 granddaughter of King John of England.

Froissart Book 13. Before 5th August 1388. Now let us speak of the earl Douglas [aged 30] and other, for they had more to do than they that went by Carlisle, Cumberland [Map]. When the earls of Douglas, of Moray [aged 46], of [his brother] March, and Dunbar [aged 50]¹ departed from the great host, they took their way thinking to pass the water and to enter into the bishopric of Durham, and to ride to the town and then to return, brenning and exiling the country and so to come to Newcastle [Map] and to lodge there in the town in the despite of all the Englishmen. And as they determined, so they did assay to put it in use, for they rode a great pace under covert without doing of any pillage by the way or assaulting of any castle, tower or house, but so came into the lord Percy's land and passed the river of Tyne without any let a three leagues above Newcastle not far from Brancepeth, and at last entered into the bishopric of Durham, where they found a good country. Then they began to make war, to slay people and to bren villages and to do many sore displeasures.

On 15th February 1390 Alexander Keith [aged 50] and [his wife] Marjorie Stewart Countess Moray [aged 42] were married. She the daughter of [his father-in-law] King Robert II of Scotland [aged 73] and Elizabeth Mure Queen Consort Scotland.

On 19th April 1390 [his father-in-law] King Robert II of Scotland [aged 74] died at Dundonald Castle, Dundonald. He was buried at Scone Abbey [Map]. His son [his brother-in-law] Robert [aged 53] succeeded III King Scotland. Annabella Drummond Queen Consort Scotland [aged 40] by marriage Queen Consort Scotland. His son David succeeded 3rd Earl Strathearn.

In 1391 John Dunbar 1st Earl of Moray [aged 49] was killed in a tournament at York [Map] from wounds received from Thomas Mowbray 4th Earl Norfolk 2nd Earl Nottingham [aged 5]. His son Thomas [aged 20] succeeded 5th Earl Moray.

On 6th May 1417 [his former wife] Marjorie Stewart Countess Moray [aged 69] died.

[his daughter] Elizabeth Dunbar was born to John Dunbar 1st Earl of Moray and Marjorie Stewart Countess Moray. She married 20th May 1455 George Gordon 2nd Earl Huntley, son of Alexander Gordon 1st Earl Huntley and Elizabeth Crichton Countess Huntley.
