On or before 11th August 1136 [her father] Ramiro "Monk" II King Aragon [aged 50] and [her mother] Agnes Poitiers Queen Consort Aragon [aged 31] were married. She by marriage Queen Consort Aragon. She the daughter of [her grandfather] William "Troubadour" Poitiers IX Duke Aquitaine and [her grandmother] Philippa Rouerge Duchess Aquitaine. He the son of Sancho Ramírez I King Aragon V King Pamplona and Felicia Montdidier Queen Consort Aragon and Pamplona.
On 11th August 1136 Petronilla Jiménez Queen Aragon was born to Ramiro "Monk" II King Aragon [aged 50] and Agnes Poitiers Queen Consort Aragon [aged 31].
On 13th November 1137 [her father] Ramiro "Monk" II King Aragon [aged 51] abdicated. Petronilla Jiménez Queen Aragon [aged 1] succeeded Queen Aragon.
In August 1150 Raymond V Count Barcelona [aged 36] and Petronilla Jiménez Queen Aragon [aged 13] were married. She by marriage Countess Barcelona. The difference in their ages was 22 years. She the daughter of Ramiro "Monk" II King Aragon [aged 64] and Agnes Poitiers Queen Consort Aragon [aged 45]. He the son of Raymond III Count Barcelona and Douce Gevaudan Countess Barcelona. They were fourth cousins.
On 25th March 1157 [her son] Alfonso II King Aragon was born to [her husband] Raymond V Count Barcelona [aged 43] and Petronilla Jiménez Queen Aragon [aged 20] at Huesca. He married his half third cousin once removed Sancha Ivrea Queen Consort Aragon, daughter of Alfonso VII King Castile VII King Leon and Richeza Unknown Queen Consort Castile Queen Consort Leon, and had issue.
On 16th August 1157 [her father] Ramiro "Monk" II King Aragon [aged 71] died. He had abdicted in fabour of his daughter Petronilla Jiménez Queen Aragon [aged 21] some twenty years before.
Around 1159 [her mother] Agnes Poitiers Queen Consort Aragon [aged 54] died.
On 6th August 1162 [her husband] Raymond V Count Barcelona [aged 48] died. His son Alfonso [aged 5] succeeded II Count Barcelona.
On 15th October 1173 Petronilla Jiménez Queen Aragon [aged 37] died.
This is a translation of the 'Memoires of Jacques du Clercq', published in 1823 in two volumes, edited by Frederic, Baron de Reissenberg. In his introduction Reissenberg writes: 'Jacques du Clercq tells us that he was born in 1424, and that he was a licentiate in law and a counsellor to Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy, in the castellany of Douai, Lille, and Orchies. It appears that he established his residence at Arras. In 1446, he married the daughter of Baldwin de la Lacherie, a gentleman who lived in Lille. We read in the fifth book of his Memoirs that his father, also named Jacques du Clercq, had married a lady of the Le Camelin family, from Compiègne. His ancestors, always attached to the counts of Flanders, had constantly served them, whether in their councils or in their armies.' The Memoires cover a period of nineteen years beginning in in 1448, ending in in 1467. It appears that the author had intended to extend the Memoirs beyond that date; no doubt illness or death prevented him from carrying out this plan. As Reissenberg writes the 'merit of this work lies in the simplicity of its narrative, in its tone of good faith, and in a certain air of frankness which naturally wins the reader’s confidence.' Du Clercq ranges from events of national and international importance, including events of the Wars of the Roses in England, to simple, everyday local events such as marriages, robberies, murders, trials and deaths, including that of his own father in Book 5; one of his last entries.
