In or before 968 Hugh I King of the Franks [aged 26] and Adelaide Poitiers Queen Consort France [aged 22] were married. She the daughter of William "Towhead" III Duke Aquitaine and Gerloc aka Adela Normandy Duchess Aquitaine. He the son of Hugh "Great" Capet Count Paris and Hedwig Saxon Ottonian.

Around 968 [her daughter] Gisela Capet Countess Ponthieu was born to [her husband] Hugh I King of the Franks [aged 27] and Adelaide Poitiers Queen Consort France [aged 23]. She married (1) 994 Hugh Montdidier I Count Ponthieu and had issue (2) 994 Hugh I Count Ponthieu and had issue.

After 968 [her sister-in-law] Emma of Paris Duchess of Normandy [deceased] died.

In or before 969 [her brother] William "Proud Arm" IV Duke Aquitaine [aged 31] and [her sister-in-law] Emma Blois Duchess Aquitaine were married. She by marriage Duchess Aquitaine. She the daughter of Theobald "Trickster" Blois I Count Blois [aged 55] and Luitgarde Vermandois Duchess Normandy [aged 53]. He the son of [her father] William "Towhead" III Duke Aquitaine and [her mother] Gerloc aka Adela Normandy Duchess Aquitaine.

Around 970 [her daughter] Hedwig Capet Countess Mons was born to [her husband] Hugh I King of the Franks [aged 29] and Adelaide Poitiers Queen Consort France [aged 25]. She married (1) Rainier Hainaut (2) before 995 Reginar Reginar IV Count Mons, son of Reginar III Count Hainaut, and had issue.

Jean de Waurin's Chronicle of England Volume 6 Books 3-6: The Wars of the Roses

Jean de Waurin was a French Chronicler, from the Artois region, who was born around 1400, and died around 1474. Waurin’s Chronicle of England, Volume 6, covering the period 1450 to 1471, from which we have selected and translated Chapters relating to the Wars of the Roses, provides a vivid, original, contemporary description of key events some of which he witnessed first-hand, some of which he was told by the key people involved with whom Waurin had a personal relationship.

He married (1) 988 Rozala of Italy (2) 999 his second cousin Bertha Welf Queen Consort France, daughter of Conrad I King Burgundy and Mathilde Carolingian Queen Consort Burgundy (3) 1003 Constance Arles Queen Consort France, daughter of William "Liberator" I Count Provence I Count Arles and Adelaide-Blanche of Anjou Queen Consort West Francia, and had issue.

On 21st May 987 Louis "Do Nothing" V King West Francia [aged 20] died without issue ending the Carolingian Dynasty. [her husband] Hugh I King of the Franks [aged 46] was elected King West Francia beginning the Capetian Dynasty.

On 3rd July 987 [her husband] Hugh I King of the Franks [aged 46] was crowned I King France: Capet. Adelaide Poitiers Queen Consort France [aged 42] by marriage Queen France: Capet.

In 988 Robert "Pious" II King of the Franks [aged 15] and Rozala of Italy [aged 38] were married. They separated around the time of coronation. Around 994 [her son-in-law] Hugh I Count Ponthieu and Gisela Capet Countess Ponthieu [aged 26] were married. She by marriage Countess Ponthieu. She the daughter of Hugh I King of the Franks [aged 53] and Adelaide Poitiers Queen Consort France [aged 49].

Before 995 [her son-in-law] Reginar Reginar IV Count Mons [aged 44] and Hedwig Capet Countess Mons [aged 24] were married. She by marriage Countess Mons. The difference in their ages was 20 years. She the daughter of Hugh I King of the Franks [aged 53] and Adelaide Poitiers Queen Consort France [aged 49]. He the son of Reginar III Count Hainaut.

On 24th October 996 [her husband] Hugh I King of the Franks [aged 55] died. His son Robert [aged 24] succeeded II King France: Capet.

In 999 Robert "Pious" II King of the Franks [aged 26] and Bertha Welf Queen Consort France [aged 35] were married. She by marriage Queen Consort of France. They separated sometime before 1003 as a consequence of their consanguinity. She the daughter of Conrad I King Burgundy and Mathilde Carolingian Queen Consort Burgundy. He the son of Hugh I King of the Franks and Adelaide Poitiers Queen Consort France [aged 54]. They were second cousins.

William of Worcester's Chronicle of England

William of Worcester, born around 1415, and died around 1482 was secretary to John Fastolf, the renowned soldier of the Hundred Years War, during which time he collected documents, letters, and wrote a record of events. Following their return to England in 1440 William was witness to major events. Twice in his chronicle he uses the first person: 1. when writing about the murder of Thomas, 7th Baron Scales, in 1460, he writes '… and I saw him lying naked in the cemetery near the porch of the church of St. Mary Overie in Southwark …' and 2. describing King Edward IV's entry into London in 1461 he writes '… proclaimed that all the people themselves were to recognize and acknowledge Edward as king. I was present and heard this, and immediately went down with them into the city'. William’s Chronicle is rich in detail. It is the source of much information about the Wars of the Roses, including the term 'Diabolical Marriage' to describe the marriage of Queen Elizabeth Woodville’s brother John’s marriage to Katherine, Dowager Duchess of Norfolk, he aged twenty, she sixty-five or more, and the story about a paper crown being placed in mockery on the severed head of Richard, 3rd Duke of York.
