On 13th November 1794 Frederick Christian Oldenburg I Duke Schleswig Holstein Sonderburg Augustenburg [aged 73] died. His son Frederick [aged 29] succeeded Christian II Duke Schleswig Holstein Sonderburg Augustenburg. [her sister-in-law] Louise Auguste Oldenburg Duchess Schleswig Holstein Sonderburg Augustenburg [aged 23] by marriage Duchess Schleswig Holstein Sonderburg Augustenburg.
On 13th March 1808 [her uncle] Christian VII King of Denmark and Norway [aged 59] died. His son [her husband] Frederick [aged 40] succeeded VI King of Denmark and Norway. Marie Sophie Hesse-Kassel Queen Consort Denmark and Norway [aged 40] by marriage Queen Consort Denmark and Norway.
On 26th January 1810 [her brother-in-law] Friedrich Wilhelm Glücksburg Duke Schleswig Holstein Sonderburg Glücksburg [aged 25] and [her sister] Louise Caroline Hesse-Kassel Duchess Schleswig Holstein Sonderburg Glücksburg [aged 20] were married. He the son of Friedrich Karl Ludwig Oldenburg I Duke Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Beck [aged 52] and Friederike Schlieben Duchess Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Beck.
On 24th April 1816 Friedrich Karl Ludwig Oldenburg I Duke Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Beck [aged 58] died at Wellingsbüttel Manor. His son [her brother-in-law] Friedrich [aged 31] succeeded Duke Schleswig Holstein Sonderburg Glücksburg. [her sister] Louise Caroline Hesse-Kassel Duchess Schleswig Holstein Sonderburg Glücksburg [aged 26] by marriage Duchess Schleswig Holstein Sonderburg Glücksburg.
On 12th January 1831 [her mother] Louise Oldenburg [aged 80] died at Gottorp Castle.
On 17th August 1836 [her father] Charles Hesse-Kassel [aged 91] died.
On 3rd December 1839 [her husband] Frederick VI King of Denmark and Norway [aged 71] died.
Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough
A canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: 'In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed.'
