John Russell 3rd Baron Ampthill 1896-1973

On 6th October 1894 [his father] Oliver Russell 2nd Baron Ampthill [aged 25] and [his mother] Margaret Lygon Baroness Ampthill [aged 19] were married. She by marriage Baroness Ampthill of Ampthill in Bedfordshire. She the daughter of [his grandfather] Frederick Lygon 6th Earl Beauchamp and [his grandmother] Mary Catherine Stanhope Countess Beauchamp. They were fourth cousin once removed. He a great x 5 grandson of King Charles II of England Scotland and Ireland.

On 4th October 1896 John Russell 3rd Baron Ampthill was born to Oliver Russell 2nd Baron Ampthill [aged 27] and Margaret Lygon Baroness Ampthill [aged 21].

On 18th October 1918 John Russell 3rd Baron Ampthill [aged 22] and Christabel Hart were married. The marriage wasn't consummated leading to awkward questions in 1921 when she announced she was five months pregnant. The subsequent divorce case, Ampthill vs Ampthill was protracted and notorious.

On 15th October 1921 [his son] Geoffrey Russell 4th Baron Ampthill was born to John Russell 3rd Baron Ampthill [aged 25] and [his wife] Christabel Hulme Hart Baroness Ampthill. The biological father remains a mystery since his mother and father had never, apparently, consummated their marriage. His father apparently never spoke to the child.

In 1922 John Russell 3rd Baron Ampthill [aged 25] attempted to divorce his wife Christabel Hart. The two named co-respondents were acquitted while the case for the unnamed partner was inconclusive.

In 1923 John Russell 3rd Baron Ampthill [aged 26] attempted to divorce his wife Christabel Hart for a second time. Christabel was convicted of adultery and lost on appeal, but had the verdict overturned on further appeal to the House of Lords which ruled in 1924 that no child born after a marriage could be declared illegitimate merely on the testimony of his mother or father.

On 7th July 1935 [his father] Oliver Russell 2nd Baron Ampthill [aged 66] died of pneumonia. His son John [aged 38] succeeded 3rd Baron Ampthill of Ampthill in Bedfordshire. [his wife] Christabel Hulme Hart Baroness Ampthill by marriage Baroness Ampthill of Ampthill in Bedfordshire.

After 7th July 1935 John Russell 3rd Baron Ampthill [aged 38] and Christabel Hulme Hart Baroness Ampthill were divorced.

On 22nd February 1937 John Russell 3rd Baron Ampthill [aged 40] and Sibell Faithfull Lumley Baroness Ampthill were married. She by marriage Baroness Ampthill of Ampthill in Bedfordshire.

On 13th September 1947 [his wife] Sibell Faithfull Lumley Baroness Ampthill died.

On 24th July 1948 John Russell 3rd Baron Ampthill [aged 51] and Adeline Mary Constance Hone Baroness Ampthill [aged 39] were married. She by marriage Baroness Ampthill of Ampthill in Bedfordshire.

On 13th October 1950 [his son] John Hugo Trenchard Russell was born to John Russell 3rd Baron Ampthill [aged 54] and [his wife] Adeline Mary Constance Hone Baroness Ampthill [aged 41]

On 12th December 1957 [his mother] Margaret Lygon Baroness Ampthill [aged 83] died.

On 3rd June 1973 John Russell 3rd Baron Ampthill [aged 76] died. He was buried at St Michael's Church, Chenies [Map]. His son Geoffrey [aged 51] succeeded 4th Baron Ampthill of Ampthill in Bedfordshire. The succession was unsuccessfully contested by his younger half-brother John Hugo Trenchard Russell [aged 22]. The Committee for Privileges ruled in favour of Geoffrey in 1976.

Geoffrey Russell 4th Baron Ampthill: On 15th October 1921 he was born to John Russell 3rd Baron Ampthill and Christabel Hulme Hart Baroness Ampthill. The biological father remains a mystery since his mother and father had never, apparently, consummated their marriage. His father apparently never spoke to the child. On 23rd April 2011 Geoffrey Russell 4th Baron Ampthill died. His son David succeeded 5th Baron Ampthill of Ampthill in Bedfordshire.

John Hugo Trenchard Russell: On 13th October 1950 he was born to John Russell 3rd Baron Ampthill and Adeline Mary Constance Hone Baroness Ampthill

In February 1976 [his former wife] Christabel Hulme Hart Baroness Ampthill died.

On 22nd June 2004 [his former wife] Adeline Mary Constance Hone Baroness Ampthill [aged 94] died. She was buried at St Michael's Church, Chenies [Map].

Adeline Mary Constance Hone Baroness Ampthill: On 24th July 1909 she was born at Queensland, Australia. On 24th July 1948 John Russell 3rd Baron Ampthill and she were married. She by marriage Baroness Ampthill of Ampthill in Bedfordshire.
