In 1345 [his son] Stephen Scrope 2nd Baron Scrope of Masham was born to Henry Scrope 1st Baron Scrope of Masham [aged 32] and [his wife] Joan Unknown [aged 25]. He married before 15th December 1376 his third cousin once removed Margery Welles Baroness Scrope Masham, daughter of John Welles 4th Baron Welles and Maud Ros Baroness Welles, and had issue.
On 17th October 1346 at the Battle of Neville's Cross at Neville's Cross, Durham [Map] the English inflicted a heavy defeat on the Scottish army that had invaded England in compliance with their treaty with the French for mutual support against England.
The English army included: William Deincourt 2nd Baron Deincourt [aged 45], Henry Scrope 1st Baron Scrope of Masham [aged 34], Ralph Hastings [aged 55], Ralph Neville 2nd Baron Neville of Raby [aged 55], Archbishop William Zouche, Henry Percy 10th and 2nd Baron Percy [aged 45] and John Mowbray 3rd Baron Mowbray [aged 35].
Of the Scottish army King David II of Scotland [aged 22], John Graham Earl Menteith [aged 56] and William "Flower of Chivalry and Knight Liddesdale" Douglas 1st Earl Atholl [aged 46] were captured and imprisoned in the Tower of London [Map].
Neil Bruce, John Randolph 3rd Earl of Moray [aged 40], David Hay 6th Baron Erroll [aged 28] and Edward Keith of Sinton [aged 66] were killed.

Around 1350 [his son] Archbishop Richard Scrope was born to Henry Scrope 1st Baron Scrope of Masham [aged 37] and [his wife] Joan Unknown [aged 30].
On 29th August 1350 the English fleet defeated a Castilian fleet at Winchelsea [Map] during the Battle of Winchelsea. Around twenty Castilian ships were captured; several were sunk. For the English King Edward III of England [aged 37] and his son Edward "Black Prince" [aged 20], James Audley [aged 32], Henry Scrope 1st Baron Scrope of Masham [aged 37], Henry of Grosmont 1st Duke Lancaster [aged 40] and John Sully [aged 67] fought.
On 25th November 1350 Henry Scrope 1st Baron Scrope of Masham [aged 38] was created 1st Baron Scrope of Masham.

Before September 1391 [his son] John Scrope and [his daughter-in-law] Elizabeth Strathbogie [aged 38] were married. She the daughter of David IV Strathbogie 12th Earl Atholl and Elizabeth Ferrers Countess Atholl.
On 31st July 1392 Henry Scrope 1st Baron Scrope of Masham [aged 79] died at York [Map]. His son Stephen [aged 47] succeeded 2nd Baron Scrope of Masham.
