On 26th October 899 [her grandfather] King Alfred "The Great" of Wessex [aged 50] died at Winchester, Hampshire [Map]. He was buried at Hyde Abbey [Map]. On 13th December 902 Æthelwold Prince Wessex revolted against his cousin [her father] King Edward "Elder" of the Anglo Saxons [aged 28] helped by the Danes.

He married 939 Gerberga Queen Consort West Francia, daughter of Henry "Fowler" I King East Francia and Matilda Ringelheim Queen Consort East Francia, and had issue.
On 17th July 924 [her father] King Edward "Elder" of the Anglo Saxons [aged 50] died. He was buried in St Oswald's Priory [Map]. His succeeded son [her half-brother] Æthelstan [aged 30] succeeded King Anglo Saxons. His succeeded son Æthelstan succeeded I King Anglo Saxons.
In 929 [her brother-in-law] Otto I Holy Roman Emperor King Italy and East Francia [aged 16] and [her sister] Eadgyth Wessex Queen Consort Germany were married. She the daughter of [her father] King Edward "Elder" of the Anglo Saxons and [her mother] Aelfflaed Wiltshire Queen Anglo Saxons [aged 59]. He the son of Henry "Fowler" I King East Francia [aged 53] and Matilda Ringelheim Queen Consort East Francia.
Jean de Waurin's Chronicle of England Volume 6 Books 3-6: The Wars of the Roses
Jean de Waurin was a French Chronicler, from the Artois region, who was born around 1400, and died around 1474. Waurin’s Chronicle of England, Volume 6, covering the period 1450 to 1471, from which we have selected and translated Chapters relating to the Wars of the Roses, provides a vivid, original, contemporary description of key events some of which he witnessed first-hand, some of which he was told by the key people involved with whom Waurin had a personal relationship.

Around 932 Æthelstan Half King [aged 22] was appointed Earldorman East Anglia by [her half-brother] King Æthelstan I of England [aged 38].
In 933 Edwin the Ætheling was drowned at sea. The circumstances of his death are unclear. Some sources say a storm caused the ship to sink, some say his brother King Æthelstan I of England [aged 39] sent him to sea in a leaky boat.
On 2nd July 936 Henry "Fowler" I King East Francia [aged 60] died. His succeeded son [her brother-in-law] Otto [aged 23] succeeded I King Germany, I Duke Saxony. [her sister] Eadgyth Wessex Queen Consort Germany by marriage Queen Consort Germany.
In 937 [her half-brother] King Æthelstan I of England [aged 43] and his son Edmund [aged 16] defeated the Scottish, Irish Viking and Strathclyde army at the Battle of Brunanburh. Two of Æthelstan's cousins, Æthelwine Wessex and Aelfwine Wessex were killed.
Archbishop Oda was present although there are no contemporary records of Oda's appearance at the battle. He is said to have miraculously provided a sword to the king when the king's own sword slipped out of its scabbard.
In 939 Louis "Overseas" IV King West Francia [aged 19] and Gerberga Queen Consort West Francia [aged 26] were married. She by marriage Queen Consort West Francia. On 27th October 939 [her half-brother] King Æthelstan I of England [aged 45] died in Gloucester [Map]. His succeeded half brother Edmund [aged 18] succeeded King of England.
In or before 943 [her half-brother] King Edmund I of England [aged 21] and [her sister-in-law] Aelfgifu of Shaftesbury Queen Consort England were married. She by marriage Queen Consort England. He the son of [her father] King Edward "Elder" of the Anglo Saxons and Eadgifu Kent Queen Anglo Saxons.
In or after 944 [her half-brother] King Edmund I of England [aged 23] and [her sister-in-law] Æthelflæd of Damerham Queen Consort of England were married. She by marriage Queen Consort England. He the son of [her father] King Edward "Elder" of the Anglo Saxons and Eadgifu Kent Queen Anglo Saxons.
On 26th January 946 [her sister] Eadgyth Wessex Queen Consort Germany died.
On 26th May 946 [her half-brother] King Edmund I of England [aged 25] was murdered by Leofa, an exiled thief, whilst attending mass at Pucklechurch, Gloucestershire. He was buried at Glastonbury Abbey [Map]. His succeeded brother Eadred succeeded I King of England.
In 951 Herbert "Old" Vermandois III Count Troyes and Meaux [aged 41] and Eadgifu Wessex Queen Consort West Francia were married. She by marriage Countess Troyes and Meaux. She the daughter of King Edward "Elder" of the Anglo Saxons and Aelfflaed Wiltshire Queen Anglo Saxons [aged 81]. He the son of Herbert II Count Vermandois, Soissons and Meaux and Adela Capet Countess Vermandois, Soissons and Meaux.
In 951 Eadgifu Wessex Queen Consort West Francia died.
The History of William Marshal was commissioned by his son shortly after William’s death in 1219 to celebrate the Marshal’s remarkable life; it is an authentic, contemporary voice. The manuscript was discovered in 1861 by French historian Paul Meyer. Meyer published the manuscript in its original Anglo-French in 1891 in two books. This book is a line by line translation of the first of Meyer’s books; lines 1-10152. Book 1 of the History begins in 1139 and ends in 1194. It describes the events of the Anarchy, the role of William’s father John, John’s marriages, William’s childhood, his role as a hostage at the siege of Newbury, his injury and imprisonment in Poitou where he met Eleanor of Aquitaine and his life as a knight errant. It continues with the accusation against him of an improper relationship with Margaret, wife of Henry the Young King, his exile, and return, the death of Henry the Young King, the rebellion of Richard, the future King Richard I, war with France, the death of King Henry II, and the capture of King Richard, and the rebellion of John, the future King John. It ends with the release of King Richard and the death of John Marshal.
