On 13th May 1568 the army of Mary Queen of Scots [aged 25] commanded by Archibald Campbell 5th Earl Argyll [aged 34] was defeated by the army of the Regent her illegitimate half-brother James Stewart 1st Earl of Moray Regent [aged 37].

John Seton: he was born to George Seton 7th Lord Seton and Isobel Hamilton Lady Seton.

Margaret Seton Lady Paisley: Around 1557 she was born to George Seton 7th Lord Seton and Isobel Hamilton Lady Seton. After 16th June 1574 Claud Hamilton 1st Lord Paisley and she were married. He the son of James Hamilton 2nd Earl Arran and Margaret Douglas Duchess Châtellerault. They were third cousin once removed. In 1587 Claud Hamilton 1st Lord Paisley was created 1st Lord Paisley. She by marriage Lord Paisley. In 1616 Margaret Seton Lady Paisley died.

In 1582 Robert Seton 1st Earl Winton [aged 29] and Margaret Montgomerie Countess Winton were married. She the daughter of Hugh Montgomerie 3rd Earl Eglinton [aged 51] and Agnes Drummond Countess Eglinton [aged 59]. They were second cousins.

Before April 1584 [his son] Robert Seton 2nd Earl Winton was born to Robert Seton 1st Earl Winton [aged 31] and [his wife] Margaret Montgomerie Countess Winton. Coefficient of inbreeding 1.89%. He married 1st May 1603 his half third cousin Ann Maitland Countess Winton, daughter of John Maitland 1st Lord Maitland of Thirlestane and Jean Fleming Countess Cassilis.

In December 1584 [his son] George Seton 3rd Earl Winton was born to Robert Seton 1st Earl Winton [aged 31] and [his wife] Margaret Montgomerie Countess Winton. Coefficient of inbreeding 1.89%. He married 26th April 1609 his fifth cousin Anne Hay Countess Winton, daughter of Francis Hay 9th Earl Erroll and Elizabeth Douglas Countess Erroll, and had issue.

In 1586 [his father] George Seton 7th Lord Seton [aged 55] died.

In 1588 [his son] Alexander Seton aka Montgomerie 6th Earl Eglinton was born to Robert Seton 1st Earl Winton [aged 35] and [his wife] Margaret Montgomerie Countess Winton. Coefficient of inbreeding 1.89%. He married 22nd June 1612 his half third cousin Anne Livingstone Countess Eglinton, daughter of Alexander Livingston 1st Earl Linlithgow and Helen Hay, and had issue.

Before 1st July 1592 [his brother] Alexander Seton 1st Earl Dunfermline [aged 37] and [his sister-in-law] Lillas Drummond were married.

On 30th November 1593 [his daughter] Isabel Seton was born to Robert Seton 1st Earl Winton [aged 40] and [his wife] Margaret Montgomerie Countess Winton. Coefficient of inbreeding 1.89%.

After 27th October 1601 [his brother] Alexander Seton 1st Earl Dunfermline [aged 46] and [his sister-in-law] Grizel Leslie Countess Dunfermline were married. They were fourth cousin once removed.

On the 22nd or 24th March 1603 Robert Seton 1st Earl Winton [aged 50] died. His son Robert [aged 18] succeeded 2nd Earl Winton.
