The True Chronicles of Jean le Bel offer one of the most vivid and immediate accounts of 14th-century Europe, written by a knight who lived through the events he describes, and experienced some of them first hand. Covering the early decades of the Hundred Years’ War, this remarkable chronicle follows the campaigns of Edward III of England, the politics of France and the Low Countries, and the shifting alliances that shaped medieval warfare. Unlike later historians, Jean le Bel writes with a strong sense of eyewitness authenticity, drawing on personal experience and the testimony of fellow soldiers. Thomas Gerard 1st Baron Gerard: Around 1564 he was born to Gilbert Gerard and Anne Ratclyffe at Gerard's Bromley, Staffordshire. Before 1588 he and Alice Rivet were married. In 1603 Thomas Gerard 1st Baron Gerard was created 1st Baron Gerard of Gerard's Bromley. On 7th October 1617 he died at Ashley, Staffordshire. His son Gilbert succeeded 2nd Baron Gerard of Gerard's Bromley.
Digby Gerard 5th Baron Gerard: On 17th July 1662 he was born to Charles Gerard 4th Baron Gerard and Jane Digby Baroness Gerard. On 28th December 1667 Charles Gerard 4th Baron Gerard died. His son Digby succeeded 5th Baron Gerard of Gerard's Bromley. After 3rd September 1678 he and Elizabeth Gerard Baroness Gerard were married. She by marriage Baroness Gerard of Gerard's Bromley. She the daughter of Charles Gerard 1st Earl Macclesfield and Jeanne de Civelle Countess Macclesfield. They were third cousin once removed. On 8th November 1684 he died. His second cousin once removed Charles succeeded 6th Baron Gerard of Gerard's Bromley.
After 18th May 1625 Dutton Gerard 3rd Baron Gerard [aged 12] and [his mother] Mary Fane Baroness Gerard [aged 19] were married. She by marriage Baroness Gerard of Gerard's Bromley. She the daughter of [his grandfather] Francis Fane 1st Earl of Westmoreland [aged 45] and [his grandmother] Mary Mildmay Countess of Westmoreland [aged 43].
Around 1634 Charles Gerard 4th Baron Gerard was born to Dutton Gerard 3rd Baron Gerard [aged 20] and Mary Fane Baroness Gerard [aged 28].
In 1634 [his mother] Mary Fane Baroness Gerard [aged 28] died.
On 21st August 1636 Dutton Gerard 3rd Baron Gerard [aged 23] and Elisabeth O'Brien Baroness Gerard were married. She by marriage Baroness Gerard of Gerard's Bromley. She the daughter of Henry O'Brien 5th Earl Thomond [aged 48] and Mary Brereton Countess Thomond [aged 56].
On 24th April 1640 Dutton Gerard 3rd Baron Gerard [aged 27] died. His son Charles [aged 6] succeeded 4th Baron Gerard of Gerard's Bromley.
Around 28th November 1660 Charles Gerard 4th Baron Gerard [aged 26] and Jane Digby Baroness Gerard [aged 23] were married. She by marriage Baroness Gerard of Gerard's Bromley.
On 17th July 1662 [his son] Digby Gerard 5th Baron Gerard was born to Charles Gerard 4th Baron Gerard [aged 28] and [his wife] Jane Digby Baroness Gerard [aged 25]. He married after 3rd September 1678 his third cousin once removed Elizabeth Gerard Baroness Gerard, daughter of Charles Gerard 1st Earl Macclesfield and Jeanne de Civelle Countess Macclesfield, and had issue.
John Evelyn's Diary. 21st January 1663. Dined at Mr. Treasurer's, of the Household, Sir Charles Berkeley's [aged 33], where were the Earl of Oxford [aged 35], Lord Bellassis [aged 48], Lord Gerard [aged 29], Sir Andrew Scrope, Sir William Coventry [aged 35], Dr. Fraser, Mr. Windham, and others.
John Evelyn's Diary. 19th February 1667. I saw a comedy acted at Court. In the afternoon, I witnessed a wrestling match for £1,000 in St. James's Park, before his Majesty [aged 36], a vast assemblage of lords and other spectators, between the western and northern men, Mr. Secretary Morice [aged 64] and Lord Gerard [aged 33] being the judges. The western men won. Many great sums were betted.
On 28th December 1667 Charles Gerard 4th Baron Gerard [aged 33] died. His son Digby [aged 5] succeeded 5th Baron Gerard of Gerard's Bromley.
In July 1679 Edward Hungerford [aged 46] and [his former wife] Jane Digby Baroness Gerard [aged 42] were married.
On 27th October 1703 [his former wife] Jane Digby Baroness Gerard [aged 66] died.
