Robert de Montalt 1st Baron Montalt was born to Roger de Montalt and Cicely D'Aubigny. He a great x 4 grandson of King Henry I "Beauclerc" England.

On 7th May 1243 [his uncle] Hugh D'Aubigny 5th Earl Lincoln 5th Earl of Arundel died at Canelli. He was buried at Wymondham Abbey, Norfolk [Map]. Earl Lincoln extinct. His nephew John [aged 20] succeeded 6th Earl Arundel. [his mother] Cicely D'Aubigny [aged 35] and her husband [his father] Roger de Montalt inherited Castle Rising Castle [Map].

Before 18th June 1260 [his father] Roger de Montalt and [his mother] Cicely D'Aubigny [aged 52] were married. She the daughter of [his grandfather] William D'Aubigny 3rd Earl Lincoln 3rd Earl of Arundel and [his grandmother] Mabel Gernon Countess Lincoln and Arundel.

On 18th June 1260 [his mother] Cicely D'Aubigny [aged 52] died. [his brother] Roger de Montalt 1st Baron Montalt [aged 22] inherited Castle Rising Castle [Map].

On 18th June 1260 [his father] Roger de Montalt died at Castle Rising Castle [Map].

In 1295 [his brother] Roger de Montalt 1st Baron Montalt [aged 57] was summoned to Parliament as 1st Baron Montalt.

Before 1297 Richard Fitzjohn and [his future wife] Emma m Fitzjohn and Montalt were married.

Before 1297 [his brother] Roger de Montalt 1st Baron Montalt [aged 58] and [his sister-in-law] Joan Mowbray [aged 53] were married. They were first cousin once removed. He a great x 4 grandson of King Henry I "Beauclerc" England. She a great x 2 granddaughter of King Henry "Curtmantle" II of England.

In 1297 Roger de Montalt 1st Baron Montalt [aged 59] died at Mold Castle, Flintshire [Map]. Baron Montalt extinct. His brother inherited Castle Rising Castle [Map]. His brother Robert de Montalt 1st Baron Montalt was created Baron Montalt in 1299.

William of Worcester's Chronicle of England

William of Worcester, born around 1415, and died around 1482 was secretary to John Fastolf, the renowned soldier of the Hundred Years War, during which time he collected documents, letters, and wrote a record of events. Following their return to England in 1440 William was witness to major events. Twice in his chronicle he uses the first person: 1. when writing about the murder of Thomas, 7th Baron Scales, in 1460, he writes '… and I saw him lying naked in the cemetery near the porch of the church of St. Mary Overie in Southwark …' and 2. describing King Edward IV's entry into London in 1461 he writes '… proclaimed that all the people themselves were to recognize and acknowledge Edward as king. I was present and heard this, and immediately went down with them into the city'. William’s Chronicle is rich in detail. It is the source of much information about the Wars of the Roses, including the term 'Diabolical Marriage' to describe the marriage of Queen Elizabeth Woodville’s brother John’s marriage to Katherine, Dowager Duchess of Norfolk, he aged twenty, she sixty-five or more, and the story about a paper crown being placed in mockery on the severed head of Richard, 3rd Duke of York.

In or after 1297 Robert de Montalt 1st Baron Montalt and Emma m Fitzjohn and Montalt were married. They had no issue.

In 1299 Robert de Montalt 1st Baron Montalt summoned to Parliament as 1st Baron Montalt.

In 1327 Robert de Montalt 1st Baron Montalt sold Castle Rising Castle [Map] to the Crown for 10,000 marks retaining a life-time lease for him and his wife Emma.

In 1329 Robert de Montalt 1st Baron Montalt died. Baron Montalt extinct.
