On 6th May 1943 [his sister] Muriel Douglas-Pennant 1st Viscountess Daventry [aged 73] was created 1st Viscountess Daventry in recognition of her late husband [his former brother-in-law] Edward Fitzroy, former Speaker of the House of Commons. The creation being the last hereditary peerage created.
On 26th June 1949 Hugh Napier Douglas-Pennant 4th Baron Penrhyn [aged 54] died without issue. His first cousin once removed Frank [aged 83] succeeded 5th Baron Penrhyn of Llandegai in Carnarvonshire.
