On 27th February 1782 [his father] George Augustus Henry Cavendish 1st Earl Burlington [aged 27] and [his mother] Elizabeth Compton Countess Burlington [aged 21] were married at London. Elizabeth Compton Countess Burlington by marriage Countess Burlington. She the daughter of [his grandfather] Charles Compton 7th Earl of Northampton and [his grandmother] Anne Somerset Countess Northampton. He the son of William Cavendish 4th Duke Devonshire and Charlotte Elizabeth Boyle Marchioness Hartington. They were fourth cousins.
On 28th August 1793 Charles Compton Cavendish 1st Baron Chesham was born to George Augustus Henry Cavendish 1st Earl Burlington [aged 39] and Elizabeth Compton Countess Burlington [aged 33].
In 1814 Charles Compton Cavendish 1st Baron Chesham [aged 20] and Catherine Susan Gordon Baroness Chesham [aged 22] were married. She the daughter of George Gordon 9th Marquess Huntly [aged 52] and Catherine Anne Cope [aged 43]. He the son of George Augustus Henry Cavendish 1st Earl Burlington [aged 59] and Elizabeth Compton Countess Burlington [aged 53]. They were fifth cousin once removed.
On 29th October 1815 [his son] William George Cavendish 2nd Baron Chesham was born to Charles Compton Cavendish 1st Baron Chesham [aged 22] and [his wife] Catherine Susan Gordon Baroness Chesham [aged 23]. He married 1849 his second cousin once removed Henrietta Frances Lascelles Baroness Chesham, daughter of William Lascelles and Caroline Georgiana Howard, and had issue.
On 1st March 1817 [his daughter] Susan Sophia Cavendish Baroness Dacre was born to Charles Compton Cavendish 1st Baron Chesham [aged 23] and [his wife] Catherine Susan Gordon Baroness Chesham [aged 25]. She married 1837 Thomas Trevor 22nd Baron Dacre 21st Baron Multon, son of General Henry Otway Trevor 21st Baron Dacre 20th Baron Multon and Pyne Crosbie Lady of the Bedchamber.
On 25th November 1820 [his daughter] Harriet Cavendish Countess Strafford was born to Charles Compton Cavendish 1st Baron Chesham [aged 27] and [his wife] Catherine Susan Gordon Baroness Chesham [aged 28]. She married 16th March 1848 George Byng 2nd Earl Strafford, son of John Byng 1st Earl Strafford and Mary Stevens Mackenzie, and had issue.
On 2nd March 1826 [his brother-in-law] Charles Gordon 10th Marquess Huntly [aged 34] and Elizabeth Conyngham [aged 27] were married. She the daughter of Henry Conyngham 1st Marquess Conyngham [aged 59] and Elizabeth Denison Marchioness Conyngham [aged 56]. He the son of [his father-in-law] George Gordon 9th Marquess Huntly [aged 64] and [his mother-in-law] Catherine Anne Cope [aged 55].
In 1831 [his father] George Augustus Henry Cavendish 1st Earl Burlington [aged 76] was created 1st Earl Burlington.
On 4th May 1834 [his father] George Augustus Henry Cavendish 1st Earl Burlington [aged 80] died. His succeeded grandson William [aged 26] succeeded 2nd Earl Burlington.
On 7th April 1835 [his mother] Elizabeth Compton Countess Burlington [aged 74] died in Compton Place Eastbourne.
In 1837 [his son-in-law] Thomas Trevor 22nd Baron Dacre 21st Baron Multon [aged 28] and [his daughter] Susan Sophia Cavendish Baroness Dacre [aged 19] were married.

This is a translation of the 'Memoires of Jacques du Clercq', published in 1823 in two volumes, edited by Frederic, Baron de Reissenberg. In his introduction Reissenberg writes: 'Jacques du Clercq tells us that he was born in 1424, and that he was a licentiate in law and a counsellor to Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy, in the castellany of Douai, Lille, and Orchies. It appears that he established his residence at Arras. In 1446, he married the daughter of Baldwin de la Lacherie, a gentleman who lived in Lille. We read in the fifth book of his Memoirs that his father, also named Jacques du Clercq, had married a lady of the Le Camelin family, from Compiègne. His ancestors, always attached to the counts of Flanders, had constantly served them, whether in their councils or in their armies.' The Memoires cover a period of nineteen years beginning in in 1448, ending in in 1467. It appears that the author had intended to extend the Memoirs beyond that date; no doubt illness or death prevented him from carrying out this plan. As Reissenberg writes the 'merit of this work lies in the simplicity of its narrative, in its tone of good faith, and in a certain air of frankness which naturally wins the reader’s confidence.' Du Clercq ranges from events of national and international importance, including events of the Wars of the Roses in England, to simple, everyday local events such as marriages, robberies, murders, trials and deaths, including that of his own father in Book 5; one of his last entries.

On 16th March 1848 [his son-in-law] George Byng 2nd Earl Strafford [aged 41] and [his daughter] Harriet Cavendish Countess Strafford [aged 27] were married. He the son of John Byng 1st Earl Strafford [aged 76] and Mary Stevens Mackenzie.
In 1849 [his son] William George Cavendish 2nd Baron Chesham [aged 33] and [his daughter-in-law] Henrietta Frances Lascelles Baroness Chesham were married. They were second cousin once removed.
On 17th June 1853 [his father-in-law] George Gordon 9th Marquess Huntly [aged 91] died. His succeeded son [his brother-in-law] Charles [aged 61] succeeded 10th Marquess Huntly, 15th Earl Huntley, 6th Earl Aboyne. Maria Antoinetta Pegus Marchioness Huntly [aged 32] by marriage Marchioness Huntly.
In 1858 Charles Compton Cavendish 1st Baron Chesham [aged 64] was created 1st Baron Chesham. [his wife] Catherine Susan Gordon Baroness Chesham [aged 66] by marriage Baroness Chesham.
On 18th September 1863 [his brother-in-law] Charles Gordon 10th Marquess Huntly [aged 71] died. His succeeded son Charles Gordon 11th Marquess Huntly [aged 16] succeeded 11th Marquess Huntly, 16th Earl Huntley, 7th Earl Aboyne.
On 10th November 1863 Charles Compton Cavendish 1st Baron Chesham [aged 70] died. His succeeded son William George Cavendish 2nd Baron Chesham [aged 48] succeeded 2nd Baron Chesham. Henrietta Frances Lascelles Baroness Chesham by marriage Baroness Chesham.
In 1866 [his former wife] Catherine Susan Gordon Baroness Chesham [aged 74] died.
