Before 1354 [his father] Robert Scales 3rd Baron Scales and [his mother] Catherine Ufford Baroness Scales [aged 36] were married. She by marriage Baroness Scales. She the daughter of [his grandfather] Robert Ufford 1st Earl Suffolk [aged 55] and [his grandmother] Margaret Norwich Countess Suffolk [aged 67].
In 1354 Roger Scales 4th Baron Scales was born to Robert Scales 3rd Baron Scales and Catherine Ufford Baroness Scales [aged 37].
On 13th August 1369 [his father] Robert Scales 3rd Baron Scales died. His son Roger [aged 15] succeeded 4th Baron Scales.
Before 1372 Roger Scales 4th Baron Scales [aged 17] and Joane Northwoode Baroness Scales [aged 8] were married. She by marriage Baroness Scales.
In 1372 [his son] Robert Scales 5th Baron Scales was born to Roger Scales 4th Baron Scales [aged 18] and [his wife] Joane Northwoode Baroness Scales [aged 9]. He married 1395 his half second cousin once removed Elizabeth Bardolf Baroness Scales, daughter of William Bardolf 4th Baron Bardolf and Agnes Poynings Baroness Bardolf, and had issue.
On 16th July 1377 King Richard II of England [aged 10] was crowned II King of England at Westminster Abbey [Map] by Archbishop Simon Sudbury [aged 61].
Richard Fitzalan 9th Earl of Surrey 4th or 11th Earl of Arundel [aged 31] carried the Crown.
Guichard d'Angle 1st Earl Huntingdon was created 1st Earl Huntingdon for life.
John Mowbray 1st Earl Nottingham [aged 11] was created 1st Earl Nottingham.
Edward 2nd Duke of York 1st Duke Albemarle [aged 4] and Robert Harrington 3rd Baron Harington [aged 21] were knighted.
Roger Scales 4th Baron Scales [aged 23] attended.
On 25th December 1386 Roger Scales 4th Baron Scales [aged 32] died. His son Robert [aged 14] succeeded 5th Baron Scales.
Before 3rd March 1388 Edmund de Thorpe and [his former wife] Joane Northwoode Baroness Scales [aged 25] were married.
Patent Rolls. 3rd March 1388. Pardon, for 201. paid to the king, to Edmund de Thorpe, knight, the younger, and Joan [aged 25], late the wife of Roger de Scales, knight, tenant-in-chief, for intermarrying without licence.
On 3rd January 1415 [his former wife] Joane Northwoode Baroness Scales [aged 52] died.
Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke
Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson.
