In 1615 [her father] William Spencer 2nd Baron Spencer [aged 23] and [her mother] Penelope Wriothesley Baroness Spencer Wormleighton [aged 16] were married. She by marriage Baroness Spencer Wormleighton. She the daughter of [her grandfather] Henry Wriothesley 3rd Earl of Southampton [aged 41] and [her grandmother] Elizabeth Vernon Countess Southampton [aged 43]. They were fourth cousins.
In 1617 Elizabeth Spencer Baroness Craven was born to William Spencer 2nd Baron Spencer [aged 25] and Penelope Wriothesley Baroness Spencer Wormleighton [aged 18].
On 12th March 1627 [her future brother-in-law] William Craven 1st Earl Craven [aged 18] was created 1st Baron Craven of Hamstead Marshall in Berkshire with a special remainder to his brothers [her future husband] John [aged 16], who was later created Baron Craven of Ryton, and Thomas, both of whom predeceased William, rendering the remainder ineffective.
On 25th October 1627 [her grandfather] Robert Spencer 1st Baron Spencer [aged 57] died. His son [her father] William [aged 36] succeeded 2nd Baron Spencer Wormleighton.
Between 1634 and 1643 John Craven 1st Baron Craven [aged 23] and Elizabeth Spencer Baroness Craven [aged 17] were married.
On 19th December 1636 [her father] William Spencer 2nd Baron Spencer [aged 45] died. His son [her brother] Henry [aged 16] succeeded 3rd Baron Spencer Wormleighton.
On 20th July 1639, some sources say 11th July 1639, [her brother] Henry Spencer 1st Earl of Sunderland [aged 18] and [her sister-in-law] Dorothy Sidney Countess Sunderland [aged 21] were married at Penhurst Rother. She by marriage Baroness Spencer Wormleighton. Her long-term suitor, she was the 'Sacharissa' of his poems, Edmund Waller [aged 33] wrote a letter to the bride's sister [aged 12] on the occasion of the wedding. She the daughter of Robert Sidney 2nd Earl of Leicester [aged 43] and Dorothy Percy Countess Leicester [aged 41]. They were third cousins.

In 1643 [her brother] Henry Spencer 1st Earl of Sunderland [aged 22] was created 1st Earl of Sunderland. [her sister-in-law] Dorothy Sidney Countess Sunderland [aged 25] by marriage Countess of Sunderland.
On 21st March 1643 [her husband] John Craven 1st Baron Craven [aged 32] was created 1st Baron Craven of Ryton in Shropshire. Elizabeth Spencer Baroness Craven [aged 26] by marriage Baroness Craven of Ryton in Shropshire.
This is a translation of the 'Memoires of Jacques du Clercq', published in 1823 in two volumes, edited by Frederic, Baron de Reissenberg. In his introduction Reissenberg writes: 'Jacques du Clercq tells us that he was born in 1424, and that he was a licentiate in law and a counsellor to Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy, in the castellany of Douai, Lille, and Orchies. It appears that he established his residence at Arras. In 1446, he married the daughter of Baldwin de la Lacherie, a gentleman who lived in Lille. We read in the fifth book of his Memoirs that his father, also named Jacques du Clercq, had married a lady of the Le Camelin family, from Compiègne. His ancestors, always attached to the counts of Flanders, had constantly served them, whether in their councils or in their armies.' The Memoires cover a period of nineteen years beginning in in 1448, ending in in 1467. It appears that the author had intended to extend the Memoirs beyond that date; no doubt illness or death prevented him from carrying out this plan. As Reissenberg writes the 'merit of this work lies in the simplicity of its narrative, in its tone of good faith, and in a certain air of frankness which naturally wins the reader’s confidence.' Du Clercq ranges from events of national and international importance, including events of the Wars of the Roses in England, to simple, everyday local events such as marriages, robberies, murders, trials and deaths, including that of his own father in Book 5; one of his last entries.

On 7th July 1648 Henry Howard [aged 28] and Elizabeth Spencer Baroness Craven [aged 31] were married. He the son of Thomas Howard 1st Earl Berkshire [aged 60] and Elizabeth Cecil Countess Berkshire [aged 52]. They were fourth cousins.

On 30th August 1655 [her brother-in-law] Anthony Ashley-Cooper 1st Earl Shaftesbury [aged 34] and [her sister] Margaret Spencer Countess Shaftesbury [aged 30] were married.
In or before 1658 [her brother-in-law] Robert Lucy [aged 35] and [her sister] Margaret Spencer Baroness Arundel Wardour [aged 30] were married. They were second cousin once removed.
In 1658 [her future husband] William Crofts 1st Baron Crofts [aged 47] was created 1st Baron Crofts of Saxham, probably as a consequence of having been given charge of Charle's illegitimate son James Scott 1st Duke Monmouth 1st Duke Buccleuch [aged 8] whose mother Lucy Walter [aged 28] had died.
In or before 1661 [her brother-in-law] Thomas Arundell 4th Baron Arundel [aged 27] and [her sister] Margaret Spencer Baroness Arundel Wardour [aged 33] were married. She by marriage Baroness Arundel of Wardour in Wiltshire. They were second cousin once removed.
In 1663 [her husband] Henry Howard [aged 43] died.
In or after 1663 William Crofts 1st Baron Crofts [aged 52] and Elizabeth Spencer Baroness Craven [aged 46] were married. They were fourth cousins.
Abbot John Whethamstede’s Chronicle of the Abbey of St Albans
Abbot John Whethamstede's Register aka Chronicle of his second term at the Abbey of St Albans, 1451-1461, is a remarkable text that describes his first-hand experience of the beginning of the Wars of the Roses including the First and Second Battles of St Albans, 1455 and 1461, respectively, their cause, and their consequences, not least on the Abbey itself. His text also includes Loveday, Blore Heath, Northampton, the Act of Accord, Wakefield, and Towton, and ends with the Coronation of King Edward IV. In addition to the events of the Wars of the Roses, Abbot John, or his scribes who wrote the Chronicle, include details in the life of the Abbey such as charters, letters, land exchanges, visits by legates, and disputes, which provide a rich insight into the day-to-day life of the Abbey, and the challenges faced by its Abbot.
