On 28th May 1672 Philip Carteret [aged 31] and Winston Churchill were killed at Solebay, Southwold [Map].

Edward Montagu 1st Earl Sandwich [aged 46] was killed. His son Edward [aged 24] succeeded 2nd Earl Sandwich.

George Legge 1st Baron Dartmouth [aged 25] fought.

Charles Harbord [aged 32] was killed. The inscription on his. Monument in Westminster Abbey [Map] reads... Sr. Charles Harbord Knt. his Majesties Surveyor General, and First Lieutenant of the Royall James, under the most noble and illustrious captain Edward, Earle of Sandwich, Vice Admirall of England, which after a terrible fight maintained to admiration against a squadron of the Holland fleet for above six houres, neere the Suffolk coast, having put off two fireships, at last being utterly dissabled and few of her men remaining unhurt, was by a third unfortunately set on fire: but he (though he swam well) neglected to save himselfe as some did, and out of the perfect love to that worthy lord (whom for many yeares he had constantly accompanyed in all his honourable imployments, and in all the engagements of the former warr) dyed with him at the age of XXXIII, much bewailed of his father whom he never offended, and much beloved of all for his knowne piety, vertue, loyalty, fortitude and fidelity.

Captain John Cox was killed in action.

Admiral John Holmes [aged 32] fought as commander of Rupert.

On 29th November 1688 Edward Montagu 2nd Earl Sandwich [aged 40] died. He was buried at All Saints Church, Barnwell [Map]. His son Edward [aged 18] succeeded 3rd Earl Sandwich.

On 8th July 1689 Edward Montagu 3rd Earl Sandwich [aged 19] and Elizabeth Wilmot Countess Sandwich [aged 14] were married. She by marriage Countess Sandwich. She the daughter of John Wilmot 2nd Earl Rochester and Elizabeth Malet Countess Rochester. He the son of Edward Montagu 2nd Earl Sandwich and Mary Anne Boyle. They were fifth cousin once removed.

On 20th October 1729 Edward Montagu 3rd Earl Sandwich [aged 59] died. He was buried at All Saints Church, Barnwell [Map]. His grandson John [aged 10] succeeded 4th Earl Sandwich.

On 14th March 1741 John Montagu 4th Earl Sandwich [aged 22] and Dorothy Fane Countess Sandwich [aged 23] were married. She by marriage Countess Sandwich.

On 30th April 1792 John Montagu 4th Earl Sandwich [aged 73] died. He was buried at All Saints Church, Barnwell [Map]. His son John [aged 48] succeeded 5th Earl Sandwich.

On 6th June 1814 John Montagu 5th Earl Sandwich [aged 70] died. He was buried at All Saints Church, Barnwell [Map]. His son George [aged 41] succeeded 6th Earl Sandwich. Louisa Lowry-Corry Countess of Sandwich [aged 33] by marriage Countess Sandwich.

On 21st May 1818 George Montagu 6th Earl Sandwich [aged 45] died. He was buried at All Saints Church, Barnwell [Map]. His son John [aged 6] succeeded 7th Earl Sandwich.

On 6th September 1838 John William Montagu 7th Earl Sandwich [aged 26] and Mary Paget Countess Sandwich [aged 26] were married. She by marriage Countess Sandwich. She the daughter of Henry William Paget 1st Marquess Anglesey [aged 70] and Charlotte Cadogan Marchioness Anglesey [aged 57]. He the son of George Montagu 6th Earl Sandwich and Louisa Lowry-Corry Countess of Sandwich [aged 57].

In 1865 John William Montagu 7th Earl Sandwich [aged 53] and Blanche Leveson-Gower aka Egerton Countess Sandwich [aged 32] were married. She by marriage Countess Sandwich. The difference in their ages was 20 years. She the daughter of Francis Leveson Gower aka Egerton 1st Earl Ellesmere and Harriet Greville Countess Ellesmere [aged 62]. He the son of George Montagu 6th Earl Sandwich and Louisa Lowry-Corry Countess of Sandwich. They were fifth cousins.

On 3rd March 1884 John William Montagu 7th Earl Sandwich [aged 72] died. He was buried at All Saints Church, Barnwell [Map] on 16th June 1884 at which time the Montagu vault was closed. His son Edward [aged 44] succeeded 8th Earl Sandwich.

On 26th June 1916 Edward Montagu 8th Earl Sandwich [aged 76] died unmarried. His nephew George [aged 41] succeeded 9th Earl Sandwich. Alberta Sturges Countess Sandwich [aged 38] by marriage Countess Sandwich.

Anne Boleyn. Her Life as told by Lancelot de Carle's 1536 Letter.

In 1536, two weeks after the execution of Anne Boleyn, her brother George and four others, Lancelot du Carle, wrote an extraordinary letter that described Anne's life, and her trial and execution, to which he was a witness. This book presents a new translation of that letter, with additional material from other contemporary sources such as Letters, Hall's and Wriothesley's Chronicles, the pamphlets of Wynkyn the Worde, the Memorial of George Constantyne, the Portuguese Letter and the Baga de Secrets, all of which are provided in Appendices.

On 15th June 1962 George Charles Montagu 9th Earl Sandwich [aged 87] died. His son Victor [aged 56] succeeded 10th Earl Sandwich. Anne Cavendish Countess Sandwich [aged 52] by marriage Countess Sandwich.

On 25th February 1995 Victor Montagu 10th Earl Sandwich [aged 88] died. His son John [aged 51] succeeded 11th Earl Sandwich. Caroline Montagu Countess of Sandwich [aged 52] by marriage Countess Sandwich.

On 1st February 2025 John Montagu 11th Earl of Sandwich [aged 81] died. His son Luke [aged 55] succeeded 12th Earl Sandwich. Julie Fisher Countess of Sandwich [aged 52] by marriage Countess Sandwich.
