Biography of George Manners 7th Earl of Rutland 1580-1641

Before 1572 [his father] John Manners 4th Earl of Rutland [aged 20] and [his mother] Elizabeth Charlton Countess Rutland [aged 18] were married. He the son of [his grandfather] Henry Manners 2nd Earl of Rutland and [his grandmother] Margaret Neville Countess Rutland.

In 1580 George Manners 7th Earl of Rutland was born to John Manners 4th Earl of Rutland [aged 29] and Elizabeth Charlton Countess Rutland [aged 27].

On 14th April 1587 [his uncle] Edward Manners 3rd Earl of Rutland [aged 37] died at his home Ivy Bridge on the Strand [Map] or at Puddle Wharf aka Dock [Map]. He was buried at St Mary the Virgin Church, Bottesford, Leicestershire [Map]. His daughter Elizabeth [aged 12] succeeded 15th Baroness Ros Helmsley. His brother [his father] John [aged 36] succeeded 4th Earl of Rutland. [his mother] Elizabeth Charlton Countess Rutland [aged 34] by marriage Countess of Rutland. He would be Earl for ten months only dying on 24 Feb 1588.

Robert Constable [aged 65] was one of the principal mourners at his funeral.

On 24th February 1588 [his father] John Manners 4th Earl of Rutland [aged 37] died. His son [his brother] Roger [aged 11] succeeded 5th Earl of Rutland.

Around 21st March 1595 [his mother] Elizabeth Charlton Countess Rutland [aged 42] died. She was buried at St Mary the Virgin Church, Bottesford, Leicestershire [Map].

On 5th March 1599 [his brother] Roger Manners 5th Earl of Rutland [aged 22] and [his sister-in-law] Elizabeth Sidney Countess Rutland [aged 14] were married. She by marriage Countess of Rutland. Childless, unhappy and possibly not consummated. She the daughter of Philip Sidney and Frances Walsingham Countess Essex [aged 32]. He the son of [his father] John Manners 4th Earl of Rutland and [his mother] Elizabeth Charlton Countess Rutland.

On 6th May 1602 [his brother] Francis Manners 6th Earl of Rutland [aged 24] and [his sister-in-law] Frances Knyvet Lady Bevill [aged 36] were married. He the son of [his father] John Manners 4th Earl of Rutland and [his mother] Elizabeth Charlton Countess Rutland.

On or after 4th February 1603, the date of the license, [his brother-in-law] William Willoughby 3rd Baron Willoughby of Parham [aged 19] and [his sister] Frances Manners Baroness Willoughby of Parham [aged 14] were married. She by marriage Baroness Willoughby Parham. She the daughter of [his father] John Manners 4th Earl of Rutland and [his mother] Elizabeth Charlton Countess Rutland. They were fifth cousin once removed.

In 1604 George Manners 7th Earl of Rutland [aged 24] was elected MP Grantham.

On 3rd March 1605 George Manners 7th Earl of Rutland [aged 25] and Frances Carey Countess Rutland [aged 34] were married. He the son of John Manners 4th Earl of Rutland and Elizabeth Charlton Countess Rutland. They were half fourth cousin twice removed.

After 26th October 1608 [his brother] Francis Manners 6th Earl of Rutland [aged 30] and [his sister-in-law] Cecily Tufton Countess Rutland were married. He the son of [his father] John Manners 4th Earl of Rutland and [his mother] Elizabeth Charlton Countess Rutland.

On 26th June 1612 Roger Manners 5th Earl of Rutland [aged 35] died. He was buried at St Mary the Virgin Church, Bottesford, Leicestershire [Map]. His brother Francis [aged 34] succeeded 6th Earl of Rutland. Cecily Tufton Countess Rutland by marriage Countess of Rutland.

In 1614 George Manners 7th Earl of Rutland [aged 34] was elected MP Lincolnshire.

On 27th June 1618 William Cecil 16th Baron Ros Helmsley [aged 28] died. His first cousin once removed [his brother] Francis [aged 40] succeeded 17th Baron Ros Helmsley. [his sister-in-law] Cecily Tufton Countess Rutland by marriage Baroness Ros Helmsley.

In 1622 Francis Fane 1st Earl of Westmoreland [aged 41] purchased Fulbeck Hall from George Manners 7th Earl of Rutland [aged 42] who continued to live there until he became 7th Earl of Rutland on 17th December 1632.

In 1624 George Manners 7th Earl of Rutland [aged 44] was elected MP Grantham.

In 1625 George Manners 7th Earl of Rutland [aged 45] was elected MP Grantham.

On 17th December 1632 Francis Manners 6th Earl of Rutland [aged 54] died at Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire [Map]. On 20th February 1633 he was buried at St Mary the Virgin Church, Bottesford, Leicestershire [Map]. His daughter Katherine [aged 30] succeeded 18th Baroness Ros Helmsley. His brother George [aged 52] succeeded 7th Earl of Rutland. Frances Carey Countess Rutland [aged 61] by marriage Countess of Rutland.

On 29th March 1641 George Manners 7th Earl of Rutland [aged 61] died. His second cousin John [aged 36] succeeded 8th Earl of Rutland. In 1644 [his former wife] Frances Carey Countess Rutland [aged 73] died.
