On 8th June 1764 [his father] Francis Russell [aged 24] and [his mother] Elizabeth Keppel [aged 25] were married. She the daughter of [his grandfather] William Anne Keppel 2nd Earl Albermarle and [his grandmother] Anne Lennox Countess Albermarle [aged 60]. He the son of John Russell 4th Duke Bedford [aged 53] and Gertrude Leveson-Gower Duchess Bedford. They were fifth cousin once removed. She a great granddaughter of King Charles II of England Scotland and Ireland.

On 23rd July 1765 Francis Russell 5th Duke Bedford was born to Francis Russell [aged 25] and Elizabeth Keppel [aged 26]. He a great x 2 grandson of King Charles II of England Scotland and Ireland.

On 22nd March 1767 [his father] Francis Russell [aged 27] died from a fall from a horse while out hunting.

In 1768 [his mother] Elizabeth Keppel [aged 29] died.

On 5th January 1771 [his grandfather] John Russell 4th Duke Bedford [aged 60] died at Woburn, Bedfordshire. He was buried at Bedford Chapel, St Michael's Church, Chenies. His grandson Francis [aged 5] succeeded 5th Duke Bedford, 5th Marquess Tavistock, 9th Earl Bedford, 9th Baron Russell of Cheneys, 7th Baron Russell of Thornhaugh, 5th Baron Howland of Streatham.

In 1784 Anne aka Nancy Parsons Viscountess Maynard [aged 49] became interested in Francis Russell 5th Duke Bedford [aged 18]. She and her husband Charles Maynard 2nd Viscount Maynard [aged 31], and Francis Russell 5th Duke Bedford spent the winter of 1785/1786 in Nice.

In 1786 [his brother] John Russell 6th Duke Bedford [aged 19] and [his sister-in-law] Georgiana Elizabeth Byng [aged 18] were married. They were fifth cousins. He a great x 2 grandson of King Charles II of England Scotland and Ireland.
