She the daughter of [his grandfather] William Cockayne and [his grandmother] Mary Morris Countess Dover [aged 62]. He the son of Robert Bertie 1st Earl Lindsey [aged 44] and Elizabeth Montagu Countess Lindsey.
On 8th November 1630 Robert Bertie 3rd Earl Lindsey was born to Montagu Bertie 2nd Earl Lindsey [aged 22] and Martha Cockayne Countess Holderness [aged 25].
In July 1641 [his mother] Martha Cockayne Countess Holderness [aged 36] died.
Around 1648 [his father] Montagu Bertie 2nd Earl Lindsey [aged 40] and [his step-mother] Bridget Wray Countess Lindsey [aged 20] were married. She by marriage Countess Lindsey. She the daughter of Edward Wray and Elizabeth Norreys 3rd Baroness Norreys Rycote. He the son of [his grandfather] Robert Bertie 1st Earl Lindsey and [his grandmother] Elizabeth Montagu Countess Lindsey. They were second cousins.

In 1654 Robert Bertie 3rd Earl Lindsey [aged 23] and Mary Massingberd were married. He the son of Montagu Bertie 2nd Earl Lindsey [aged 46] and Martha Cockayne Countess Holderness.
On 6th July 1655 [his brother-in-law] Baptist Noel 3rd Viscount Campden [aged 44] and [his sister] Elizabeth Bertie Viscountess Campden [aged 15] were married. She by marriage Viscountess Campden. The difference in their ages was 29 years. She the daughter of [his father] Montagu Bertie 2nd Earl Lindsey [aged 47] and [his mother] Martha Cockayne Countess Holderness. They were second cousin twice removed.
On 24th March 1657 [his step-mother] Bridget Wray Countess Lindsey [aged 29] died. She was buried with her mother Elizabeth Norreys 3rd Baroness Norreys Rycote in Westminster Abbey. Her son [his half-brother] James [aged 3] succeeded 5th Baron Norreys of Rycote.
Around 1658 [his wife] Mary Massingberd died.
Abbot John Whethamstede’s Chronicle of the Abbey of St Albans
Abbot John Whethamstede's Register aka Chronicle of his second term at the Abbey of St Albans, 1451-1461, is a remarkable text that describes his first-hand experience of the beginning of the Wars of the Roses including the First and Second Battles of St Albans, 1455 and 1461, respectively, their cause, and their consequences, not least on the Abbey itself. His text also includes Loveday, Blore Heath, Northampton, the Act of Accord, Wakefield, and Towton, and ends with the Coronation of King Edward IV. In addition to the events of the Wars of the Roses, Abbot John, or his scribes who wrote the Chronicle, include details in the life of the Abbey such as charters, letters, land exchanges, visits by legates, and disputes, which provide a rich insight into the day-to-day life of the Abbey, and the challenges faced by its Abbot.

He married (1) 30th July 1678 Mary Wynn, daughter of Richard Wynn 4th Baronet and Sarah Myddelton, and had issue (2) 1689 Albinia Farington Duchess Ancaster and Kesteven and had issue.
Around 1663 [his son] Peregrine Bertie was born to Robert Bertie 3rd Earl Lindsey [aged 32] and [his wife] Elizabeth Wharton Countess Lindsey [aged 30].
Around 1664 [his son] Philip Bertie was born to Robert Bertie 3rd Earl Lindsey [aged 33] and [his wife] Elizabeth Wharton Countess Lindsey [aged 31]. He married 1711 Elizabeth Brabazon, daughter of William Brabazon 3rd Earl Meath and Elizabeth Lennard 3rd Countess Meath.
Around 1666 [his son] Norris Bertie was born to Robert Bertie 3rd Earl Lindsey [aged 35] and [his wife] Elizabeth Wharton Countess Lindsey [aged 33].
On 25th July 1666 [his father] Montagu Bertie 2nd Earl Lindsey [aged 58] died at Campden House, Middlesex. His son Robert [aged 35] succeeded 3rd Earl Lindsey, 16th Baron Willoughby de Eresby. [his wife] Elizabeth Wharton Countess Lindsey [aged 33] by marriage Countess Lindsey.
Before 4th December 1667 Francis Lee 4th Baronet [aged 28] and [his future wife] Elizabeth Pope Countess Lindsey were married. She by marriage Lady Lee of Quarrendon in Buckinghamshire. She the daughter of Thomas Pope 2nd Earl Downe and Lucy Dutton Countess Downe. He the son of Francis Henry Lee 2nd Baronet and Anne St John Countess Rochester [aged 53]. They were half fifth cousin once removed.
Around 1668 [his son] Albemarle Bertie was born to Robert Bertie 3rd Earl Lindsey [aged 37] and [his wife] Elizabeth Wharton Countess Lindsey [aged 35].
In 1669 [his wife] Elizabeth Wharton Countess Lindsey [aged 36] died.
On 1st February 1672 [his half-brother] James Bertie 1st Earl of Abingdon [aged 18] and [his sister-in-law] Eleanor Lee Countess Abingdon were married at Adderbury, Banbury. She by marriage Baroness Norreys of Rycote. He the son of [his father] Montagu Bertie 2nd Earl Lindsey and [his step-mother] Bridget Wray Countess Lindsey. They were fifth cousin once removed.
After 1678 [his brother-in-law] Charles Dormer 2nd Earl Carnarvon [aged 45] and [his half-sister] Mary Bertie Countess Carnarvon [aged 23] were married. She by marriage Countess Carnarvon. The difference in their ages was 22 years. She the daughter of [his father] Montagu Bertie 2nd Earl Lindsey and [his step-mother] Bridget Wray Countess Lindsey. He the son of Robert Dormer 1st Earl Carnarvon and Anne Sophia Herbert Countess Carnarvon. They were second cousin once removed.
This is a translation of the 'Memoires of Jacques du Clercq', published in 1823 in two volumes, edited by Frederic, Baron de Reissenberg. In his introduction Reissenberg writes: 'Jacques du Clercq tells us that he was born in 1424, and that he was a licentiate in law and a counsellor to Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy, in the castellany of Douai, Lille, and Orchies. It appears that he established his residence at Arras. In 1446, he married the daughter of Baldwin de la Lacherie, a gentleman who lived in Lille. We read in the fifth book of his Memoirs that his father, also named Jacques du Clercq, had married a lady of the Le Camelin family, from Compiègne. His ancestors, always attached to the counts of Flanders, had constantly served them, whether in their councils or in their armies.' The Memoires cover a period of nineteen years beginning in in 1448, ending in in 1467. It appears that the author had intended to extend the Memoirs beyond that date; no doubt illness or death prevented him from carrying out this plan. As Reissenberg writes the 'merit of this work lies in the simplicity of its narrative, in its tone of good faith, and in a certain air of frankness which naturally wins the reader’s confidence.' Du Clercq ranges from events of national and international importance, including events of the Wars of the Roses in England, to simple, everyday local events such as marriages, robberies, murders, trials and deaths, including that of his own father in Book 5; one of his last entries.

In 1689 Robert Bertie 1st Duke Ancaster and Kesteven [aged 28] and Albinia Farington Duchess Ancaster and Kesteven were married. He the son of Robert Bertie 3rd Earl Lindsey [aged 58] and Elizabeth Wharton Countess Lindsey.
On 27th August 1691 [his son] Norris Bertie [aged 25] died.
In 1694 [his brother-in-law] Thomas Osborne 1st Duke Leeds [aged 61] was created 1st Duke Leeds by King William III of England, Scotland and Ireland [aged 43] in recognition of Thomas Osborne 1st Duke Leeds 1632-1712's support of the Glorious Revolution he having been one of the signatories of the Invitation to William of Orange from the Immortal Seven. [his sister] Bridget Bertie Duchess Leeds [aged 65] by marriage Duchess Leeds.
On 15th April 1698 [his half-brother] James Bertie 1st Earl of Abingdon [aged 44] and [his sister-in-law] Catherine Chamberlayne Countess Abingdon [aged 30] were married at the Church of St Mary the Virgin, Stanwell. She by marriage Countess Abingdon. He the son of [his father] Montagu Bertie 2nd Earl Lindsey and [his step-mother] Bridget Wray Countess Lindsey.
On 22nd May 1699 [his half-brother] James Bertie 1st Earl of Abingdon [aged 45] died. He was buried at St Michael's Church, Rycote. His son [his nephew] Montagu [aged 26] succeeded 2nd Earl Abingdon, 6th Baron Norreys of Rycote.
Around 1700 Robert Bertie 3rd Earl Lindsey [aged 69] and Elizabeth Pope Countess Lindsey were married. She by marriage Countess Lindsey. She the daughter of Thomas Pope 2nd Earl Downe and Lucy Dutton Countess Downe. He the son of Montagu Bertie 2nd Earl Lindsey and Martha Cockayne Countess Holderness.
On 9th May 1701 Robert Bertie 3rd Earl Lindsey [aged 70] died. His son Robert [aged 40] succeeded 4th Earl Lindsey, 17th Baron Willoughby de Eresby. Albinia Farington Duchess Ancaster and Kesteven by marriage Countess Lindsey.
In 1719 [his former wife] Elizabeth Pope Countess Lindsey died.
The History of William Marshal was commissioned by his son shortly after William’s death in 1219 to celebrate the Marshal’s remarkable life; it is an authentic, contemporary voice. The manuscript was discovered in 1861 by French historian Paul Meyer. Meyer published the manuscript in its original Anglo-French in 1891 in two books. This book is a line by line translation of the first of Meyer’s books; lines 1-10152. Book 1 of the History begins in 1139 and ends in 1194. It describes the events of the Anarchy, the role of William’s father John, John’s marriages, William’s childhood, his role as a hostage at the siege of Newbury, his injury and imprisonment in Poitou where he met Eleanor of Aquitaine and his life as a knight errant. It continues with the accusation against him of an improper relationship with Margaret, wife of Henry the Young King, his exile, and return, the death of Henry the Young King, the rebellion of Richard, the future King Richard I, war with France, the death of King Henry II, and the capture of King Richard, and the rebellion of John, the future King John. It ends with the release of King Richard and the death of John Marshal.
