1645 Battle of Inverlochy

On 2nd February 1645 a Royalist force of Highlanders and Confederate Irish troops under the overall command of James Graham 1st Marquess Montrose [aged 32] defeated the forces of Archibald Campbell 1st Marquess Argyll [aged 37] who had been camped at Inverlochy Castle.

On 7th August 1648 [his father-in-law] William Douglas 7th Earl Morton [aged 66] died. His succeeded son [his brother-in-law] Robert Douglas 8th Earl Morton [aged 32] succeeded 8th Earl Morton. Elizabeth Villiers Countess Morton [aged 39] by marriage Countess Morton.

On 12th November 1649 [his brother-in-law] Robert Douglas 8th Earl Morton [aged 33] died at Kirkwall. His succeeded son William Douglas 9th Earl Morton succeeded 9th Earl Morton.

On 13th May 1650 Archibald Campbell 9th Earl Argyll [aged 21] and Mary Stewart Countess Argyll [aged 22] were married at Canongate Kirk, Canongate. She the daughter of James Stewart 4th Earl of Moray [aged 39] and Margaret Home Countess Moray. He the son of Archibald Campbell 1st Marquess Argyll [aged 43] and Margaret Douglas Marchioness Argyll [aged 40]. They were half second cousin once removed. On 27th May 1661 Archibald Campbell 1st Marquess Argyll [aged 54] was beheaded for his perceived treason on the restoration of Charles II at Edinburgh. He was buried at Kilmun Church.
