James Livingston 5th Earl Linlithgow 4th Earl Callendar was born to Alexander Livingstone 3rd Earl Callendar and Anne Graham.
In 1685 Alexander Livingston 2nd Earl Callendar died. His nephew [his father] Alexander succeeded 3rd Earl Callendar.
In December 1692 [his father] Alexander Livingstone 3rd Earl Callendar died. His son James succeeded 4th Earl Callendar.
In 1695 [his uncle] George Livingston 4th Earl Linlithgow died. His nephew James succeeded 5th Earl Linlithgow.
After May 1707 James Livingston 5th Earl Linlithgow 4th Earl Callendar and Margaret Hay Countess Linlithgow were married. She by marriage Countess Linlithgow. She the daughter of John Hay 12th Earl Erroll and Anne Drummond Countess Erroll. He the son of Alexander Livingstone 3rd Earl Callendar and Anne Graham. They were third cousins.
In 1709 [his daughter] Anne Livingston Countess Kilmarnock was born to James Livingston 5th Earl Linlithgow 4th Earl Callendar and [his wife] Margaret Hay Countess Linlithgow. She married William Boyd 4th Earl Kilmarnock, son of William Boyd 3rd Earl Kilmarnock, and had issue.
On 17th February 1715 James Livingston 5th Earl Linlithgow 4th Earl Callendar was attainted of high treason. Earl Linlithgow and Earl Callendar forfeit. His estates were also forfeited to the Crown. Linlithgow Palace was subsequently given to James Hamilton 5th Duke Hamilton 2nd Duke Brandon [aged 12].
On 13th November 1715 John Campbell 2nd Duke Argyll [aged 35] commanded a british army against an army of Jacobites commanded by John Erskine 23rd Earl of Mar [aged 40]. The outcome of the battle was inconclusive.
John Lyon 5th Earl Strathmore and Kinghorne [aged 19] was killed fighting for the Jacobites. His brother Charles [aged 16] succeeded 6th Earl Strathmore and Kinghorne.
Jacobite James Livingston 5th Earl Linlithgow 4th Earl Callendar commanded a Squadron of Horse.
In 1716 James Livingston 5th Earl Linlithgow 4th Earl Callendar escaped to the Continent.
On 25th April 1723 James Livingston 5th Earl Linlithgow 4th Earl Callendar died whilst in Rome.
