Before 1645 [his father] John Hay 1st Marquess Tweeddale [aged 19] and [his mother] Jean Scott Marchioness Tweddale were married. She the daughter of [his grandfather] Walter Scott 1st Earl Buccleuch and [his grandmother] Mary Hay Countess Buccleuch. He the son of John Hay 1st Earl Tweeddale [aged 51] and Jean Seton. They were half third cousin once removed.
In 1645 John Hay 2nd Marquess Tweeddale was born to John Hay 1st Marquess Tweeddale [aged 19] and Jean Scott Marchioness Tweddale.
On 25th May 1653 [his grandfather] John Hay 1st Earl Tweeddale [aged 60] died. His son [his father] John [aged 27] succeeded 2nd Earl Tweeddale. [his mother] Jean Scott Marchioness Tweddale by marriage Countess Tweeddale.
In 1666 John Hay 2nd Marquess Tweeddale [aged 21] was elected Fellow of the Royal Society.
In 1666 John Hay 2nd Marquess Tweeddale [aged 21] and Mary Maitland Marchioness Tweddale were married. She the daughter of John Maitland 1st Duke Lauderdale [aged 49] and Anne Home [aged 54]. He the son of John Hay 1st Marquess Tweeddale [aged 40] and Jean Scott Marchioness Tweddale.
After 1668 [his son] Brigadier-General William Hay was born to John Hay 2nd Marquess Tweeddale [aged 23] and [his wife] Mary Maitland Marchioness Tweddale.
In 1670 [his son] Charles Hay 3rd Marquess Tweeddale was born to John Hay 2nd Marquess Tweeddale [aged 25] and [his wife] Mary Maitland Marchioness Tweddale.
On 10th October 1675 [his brother-in-law] Robert Ker 3rd Earl Roxburghe [aged 17] and [his sister] Margaret Hay Countess Roxburghe were married. She by marriage Countess Roxburghe. She the daughter of [his father] John Hay 1st Marquess Tweeddale [aged 50] and [his mother] Jean Scott Marchioness Tweddale. He the son of William Ker 2nd Earl Roxburghe and Jane Ker Countess Roxburgh. They were second cousin once removed.

William of Worcester's Chronicle of England
William of Worcester, born around 1415, and died around 1482 was secretary to John Fastolf, the renowned soldier of the Hundred Years War, during which time he collected documents, letters, and wrote a record of events. Following their return to England in 1440 William was witness to major events. Twice in his chronicle he uses the first person: 1. when writing about the murder of Thomas, 7th Baron Scales, in 1460, he writes '… and I saw him lying naked in the cemetery near the porch of the church of St. Mary Overie in Southwark …' and 2. describing King Edward IV's entry into London in 1461 he writes '… proclaimed that all the people themselves were to recognize and acknowledge Edward as king. I was present and heard this, and immediately went down with them into the city'. William’s Chronicle is rich in detail. It is the source of much information about the Wars of the Roses, including the term 'Diabolical Marriage' to describe the marriage of Queen Elizabeth Woodville’s brother John’s marriage to Katherine, Dowager Duchess of Norfolk, he aged twenty, she sixty-five or more, and the story about a paper crown being placed in mockery on the severed head of Richard, 3rd Duke of York.

Before 1st August 1696 [his brother-in-law] William Douglas 1st Earl March [aged 26] and [his sister] Jean Hay Countess March were married. She the daughter of [his father] John Hay 1st Marquess Tweeddale [aged 70] and [his mother] Jean Scott Marchioness Tweddale. He the son of William Douglas 1st Duke Queensberry and Isabel Douglas Countess Queensberry. They were fourth cousins.
In 1697 [his brother-in-law] William Douglas 1st Earl March [aged 26] was created 1st Earl March. [his sister] Jean Hay Countess March by marriage Countess March.
On 29th April 1697 [his son-in-law] John Hamilton-Leslie 9th Earl of Rothes [aged 18] and Jean Hay were married. She the daughter of John Hay 2nd Marquess Tweeddale [aged 52] and Mary Maitland Marchioness Tweddale. He the son of Charles Hamilton 5th Earl Haddington and Margaret Leslie 8th Countess Rothes and Haddington. They were half third cousin once removed.
On 11th August 1697 [his father] John Hay 1st Marquess Tweeddale [aged 71] died at Edinburgh. His son John [aged 52] succeeded 2nd Marquess Tweeddale, 3rd Earl Tweeddale. [his wife] Mary Maitland Marchioness Tweddale by marriage Marchioness Tweeddale.
On 20th April 1713 John Hay 2nd Marquess Tweeddale [aged 68] died. His son Charles [aged 43] succeeded 3rd Marquess Tweeddale, 4th Earl Tweeddale.
[his daughter] Jean Hay was born to John Hay 2nd Marquess Tweeddale and Mary Maitland Marchioness Tweddale. She married 29th April 1697 her half third cousin once removed John Hamilton-Leslie 9th Earl of Rothes, son of Charles Hamilton 5th Earl Haddington and Margaret Leslie 8th Countess Rothes and Haddington, and had issue.
