John Murray 1st Duke Atholl 1660-1724

On 5th May 1659 [his father] John Murray 1st Marquess Atholl [aged 28] and [his mother] Amelia Stanley Marchioness Atholl [aged 26] were married. She the daughter of [his grandfather] James Stanley 7th Earl of Derby and [his grandmother] Charlotte Thouars Countess Derby [aged 59]. He the son of John Murray 1st Earl Atholl and Jean Campbell Countess Atholl.

On 24th February 1660 John Murray 1st Duke Atholl was born to John Murray 1st Marquess Atholl [aged 28] and Amelia Stanley Marchioness Atholl [aged 27] at Knowsley Hall, Lancashire.

In January 1670 James Murray 2nd Earl Tullibardine [aged 52] died. His first cousin once removed [his father] John [aged 38] succeeded 3rd Earl Tullibardine.

On 7th February 1676 [his father] John Murray 1st Marquess Atholl [aged 44] was created 1st Marquess Atholl. [his mother] Amelia Stanley Marchioness Atholl [aged 43] by marriage Marchioness Atholl.

Before 6th May 1684 John Murray 1st Duke Atholl [aged 24] and Catherine Hamilton Duchess Atholl [aged 22] were married. She by marriage Duchess Atholl. She the daughter of William Hamilton 1st Duke Hamilton [aged 49] and Anne Hamilton 3rd Duchess Hamilton [aged 52]. He the son of John Murray 1st Marquess Atholl [aged 53] and Amelia Stanley Marchioness Atholl [aged 51]. They were half fourth cousins. He a great x 5 grandson of King Henry VII of England and Ireland.

On 6th May 1684 [his son] John Murray was born to John Murray 1st Duke Atholl [aged 24] and [his wife] Catherine Hamilton Duchess Atholl [aged 22].

On 21st May 1685 [his daughter] Anne Murray was born to John Murray 1st Duke Atholl [aged 25] and [his wife] Catherine Hamilton Duchess Atholl [aged 23]. She died aged one in 1686.

In 1686 [his brother-in-law] James Hamilton Duke Hamilton, 1st Duke Brandon [aged 27] and Anne Spencer Countess Arran [aged 19] were married. He by marriage Duke Hamilton. She the daughter of Robert Spencer 2nd Earl of Sunderland [aged 44] and Anne Digby Countess Sunderland [aged 40]. He the son of [his father-in-law] William Hamilton 1st Duke Hamilton [aged 51] and [his mother-in-law] Anne Hamilton 3rd Duchess Hamilton [aged 54].

In 1686 [his half-brother] Charles Murray 1st Earl Dunmore [aged 25] was created 1st Earl Dunmore.

On 20th July 1686 [his daughter] Anne Murray [aged 1] died.

On 28th September 1686 [his daughter] Mary Murray was born to John Murray 1st Duke Atholl [aged 26] and [his wife] Catherine Hamilton Duchess Atholl [aged 24]. She died aged two in 1689.

On 6th January 1689 [his daughter] Mary Murray [aged 2] died.

On 14th April 1689 [his son] William Murray was born to John Murray 1st Duke Atholl [aged 29] and [his wife] Catherine Hamilton Duchess Atholl [aged 27].

On 28th September 1690 [his son] James Murray 2nd Duke Atholl was born to John Murray 1st Duke Atholl [aged 30] and [his wife] Catherine Hamilton Duchess Atholl [aged 28]. He married 28th April 1726 Jane Frederick Duchess Atholl and had issue.

On 24th September 1691 [his son] Charles Murray was born to John Murray 1st Duke Atholl [aged 31] and [his wife] Catherine Hamilton Duchess Atholl [aged 29].

On 28th October 1692 [his daughter] Katherine Murray was born to John Murray 1st Duke Atholl [aged 32] and [his wife] Catherine Hamilton Duchess Atholl [aged 30]. She died aged less than one years old.

On 5th November 1692 [his daughter] Katherine Murray died.

On 23rd August 1693 [his son] George Murray was born to John Murray 1st Duke Atholl [aged 33] and [his wife] Catherine Hamilton Duchess Atholl [aged 31]. He died aged less than one years old.

On 25th August 1693 [his son] George Murray died.

On 18th April 1694 [his father-in-law] William Hamilton 1st Duke Hamilton [aged 59] died. His son [his brother-in-law] James [aged 36] succeeded 4th Duke Hamilton. His son Charles [aged 32] succeeded 2nd Earl Selkirk.

On 4th October 1694 [his son] George Murray was born to John Murray 1st Duke Atholl [aged 34] and [his wife] Catherine Hamilton Duchess Atholl [aged 32] at Huntingtower, Perth.

On 25th November 1695 [his brother-in-law] George Hamilton 1st Earl Orkney [aged 29] and Elizabeth Villiers Countess Orkney [aged 38] were married. He the son of [his father-in-law] William Hamilton 1st Duke Hamilton and [his mother-in-law] Anne Hamilton 3rd Duchess Hamilton [aged 63]. They were half second cousin once removed.

In 1696 [his brother-in-law] George Hamilton 1st Earl Orkney [aged 29] was created 1st Earl Orkney. Elizabeth Villiers Countess Orkney [aged 39] by marriage Countess Orkney.

Before 5th April 1696 [his brother-in-law] John Hamilton 1st Earl Ruglen 3rd Earl Selkirk [aged 32] and Elizabeth Hutchinson Countess Ruglen [aged 19] were married. He the son of [his father-in-law] William Hamilton 1st Duke Hamilton and [his mother-in-law] Anne Hamilton 3rd Duchess Hamilton [aged 64].

On 14th April 1697 [his brother-in-law] John Hamilton 1st Earl Ruglen 3rd Earl Selkirk [aged 33] was created 1st Earl Ruglen. Elizabeth Hutchinson Countess Ruglen [aged 20] by marriage Countess Ruglen.

In 1698 [his brother-in-law] James Hamilton Duke Hamilton, 1st Duke Brandon [aged 39] and Elizabeth Gerard Duchess Brandon [aged 18] were married. The difference in their ages was 21 years. He the son of [his father-in-law] William Hamilton 1st Duke Hamilton and [his mother-in-law] Anne Hamilton 3rd Duchess Hamilton [aged 66].

On 15th April 1699 [his daughter] Susan Murray was born to John Murray 1st Duke Atholl [aged 39] and [his wife] Catherine Hamilton Duchess Atholl [aged 37]. She married after 1710 William Gordon 2nd Earl Aberdeen, son of George Gordon 1st Earl Aberdeen, and had issue.

On 22nd February 1702 [his mother] Amelia Stanley Marchioness Atholl [aged 69] died.

On 25th April 1702 [his daughter] Katherine Murray was born to John Murray 1st Duke Atholl [aged 42] and [his wife] Catherine Hamilton Duchess Atholl [aged 40]. She died aged seven in 1710.

In 1703 John Murray 1st Duke Atholl [aged 42] was created 1st Duke Atholl.

On 6th May 1703 [his father] John Murray 1st Marquess Atholl [aged 72] died. His son John [aged 43] succeeded 2nd Marquess Atholl, 3rd Earl Atholl, 4th Earl Tullibardine. [his wife] Catherine Hamilton Duchess Atholl [aged 41] by marriage Marchioness Atholl.

On 29th December 1704 [his son] Basil Murray was born to John Murray 1st Duke Atholl [aged 44] and [his wife] Catherine Hamilton Duchess Atholl [aged 42]. He died aged seven in 1712.

In 1707 [his wife] Catherine Hamilton Duchess Atholl [aged 45] died.

In 1710 [his daughter] Katherine Murray [aged 7] died.

After 1710 [his son-in-law] William Gordon 2nd Earl Aberdeen [aged 31] and Susan Murray [aged 10] were married. The difference in their ages was 20 years. She the daughter of John Murray 1st Duke Atholl [aged 49] and Catherine Hamilton Duchess Atholl. He the son of George Gordon 1st Earl Aberdeen [aged 72].

On 19th April 1710 [his half-brother] Charles Murray 1st Earl Dunmore [aged 49] died. His son [his nephew] John [aged 24] succeeded 2nd Earl Dunmore.

Around 26th June 1710 John Murray 1st Duke Atholl [aged 50] and Mary Ross Duchess Atholl [aged 22] were married. She by marriage Duchess Atholl. The difference in their ages was 27 years. He the son of John Murray 1st Marquess Atholl and Amelia Stanley Marchioness Atholl.

On 14th April 1711 [his son] John Murray was born to John Murray 1st Duke Atholl [aged 51] and [his wife] Mary Ross Duchess Atholl [aged 23].

In February 1712 [his son] Basil Murray [aged 7] died.

In August 1712 [his son] Mungo Murray was born to John Murray 1st Duke Atholl [aged 52] and [his wife] Mary Ross Duchess Atholl [aged 25]. He died aged one in 1714.

In June 1714 [his son] Mungo Murray [aged 1] died.

On 9th June 1714 [his son] Edward Murray was born to John Murray 1st Duke Atholl [aged 54] and [his wife] Mary Ross Duchess Atholl [aged 26].

On 8th January 1716 [his son] Frederick Murray was born to John Murray 1st Duke Atholl [aged 55] and [his wife] Mary Ross Duchess Atholl [aged 28].

On 28th May 1718 [his daughter] Wilhelmina Caroline Murray was born to John Murray 1st Duke Atholl [aged 58] and [his wife] Mary Ross Duchess Atholl [aged 30]. She died aged one in 1720.

On 3rd March 1720 [his daughter] Mary Murray Countess Findlater was born to John Murray 1st Duke Atholl [aged 60] and [his wife] Mary Ross Duchess Atholl [aged 32]. She married 9th June 1749 James Ogilvy 6th Earl Findlater 3rd Earl Seafield, son of James Ogilvy 5th Earl Findlater 2nd Earl Seafield and Elizabeth Hay, and had issue.

In May 1720 [his daughter] Wilhelmina Caroline Murray [aged 1] died.

On 28th August 1720 [his son] Charles Murray [aged 28] died.

On 20th April 1721 [his daughter] Amelia Anne Murray was born to John Murray 1st Duke Atholl [aged 61] and [his wife] Mary Ross Duchess Atholl [aged 33]. She died aged less than one years old.

On 26th April 1721 [his daughter] Amelia Anne Murray died.

On 14th November 1724 John Murray 1st Duke Atholl [aged 64] died. His son James [aged 34] succeeded 2nd Duke Atholl, 3rd Marquess Atholl, 4th Earl Atholl, 5th Earl Tullibardine.
