In 1548 William Stourton 7th Baron Stourton [aged 43] died. His son Charles [aged 28] succeeded 8th Baron Stourton. [his future wife] Anne Stanley Baroness Stourton [aged 6] by marriage Baroness Stourton. He left most of his estates to Agnes Rhys Lady Baynton leading to years of litigation between her and his son Charles Stourton 8th Baron Stourton.

Before 1553 Charles Stourton 8th Baron Stourton [aged 32] and [his future wife] Anne Stanley Baroness Stourton [aged 10] were married. The difference in their ages was 22 years. She the daughter of [his future father-in-law] Edward Stanley 3rd Earl of Derby [aged 43] and [his future mother-in-law] Dorothy Howard Countess Derby [aged 41]. They were fourth cousin twice removed.

In 1555 John Arundell [aged 25] was elected MP Preston.

In 1557 John Arundell [aged 27] and Anne Stanley Baroness Stourton [aged 15] were married. She the daughter of Edward Stanley 3rd Earl of Derby [aged 47] and Dorothy Howard Countess Derby [aged 46]. They were half third cousins.

After 1557 John Arundell [aged 27] was imprisoned at Ely Palace Camden.

Memoires of Jacques du Clercq

This is a translation of the 'Memoires of Jacques du Clercq', published in 1823 in two volumes, edited by Frederic, Baron de Reissenberg. In his introduction Reissenberg writes: 'Jacques du Clercq tells us that he was born in 1424, and that he was a licentiate in law and a counsellor to Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy, in the castellany of Douai, Lille, and Orchies. It appears that he established his residence at Arras. In 1446, he married the daughter of Baldwin de la Lacherie, a gentleman who lived in Lille. We read in the fifth book of his Memoirs that his father, also named Jacques du Clercq, had married a lady of the Le Camelin family, from Compiègne. His ancestors, always attached to the counts of Flanders, had constantly served them, whether in their councils or in their armies.' The Memoires cover a period of nineteen years beginning in in 1448, ending in in 1467. It appears that the author had intended to extend the Memoirs beyond that date; no doubt illness or death prevented him from carrying out this plan. As Reissenberg writes the 'merit of this work lies in the simplicity of its narrative, in its tone of good faith, and in a certain air of frankness which naturally wins the reader’s confidence.' Du Clercq ranges from events of national and international importance, including events of the Wars of the Roses in England, to simple, everyday local events such as marriages, robberies, murders, trials and deaths, including that of his own father in Book 5; one of his last entries.

On 16th March 1557 Charles Stourton 8th Baron Stourton [aged 37] and four of his servants were executed at Salisbury for the murder of William Hartgill and his son John Hartgill. His son [his step-son] John [aged 4] succeeded 9th Baron Stourton. See Newgate Calendar.

On 7th November 1557 [his father] John Arundell [aged 57] died.

In 1558 John Arundell [aged 28] was elected MP Cornwall.

In 1564 [his son] John Arundell was born to John Arundell [aged 34] and [his wife] Anne Stanley Baroness Stourton [aged 22]. He married 1595 his half third cousin once removed Ann Jerningham, daughter of Henry Jerningham 1st Baronet and Eleanor Dacre, and had issue.

On 24th October 1572 [his father-in-law] Edward Stanley 3rd Earl of Derby [aged 63] died at Lathom, Lancashire. His son [his brother-in-law] Henry [aged 41] succeeded 4th Earl Derby, 12th Baron Strange Knockin, 8th Baron Mohun of Dunster, 5th Baron Stanley. Margaret Clifford Countess Derby [aged 32] by marriage Countess Derby.

Richard Shireburn [aged 50] was an executor in his will.

Around 1580 [his step-son] John Stourton 9th Baron Stourton [aged 27] and Frances Brooke [aged 20] were married. They were fourth cousin once removed. She a great x 5 granddaughter of King Edward III of England.

In 1588 [his step-son] John Stourton 9th Baron Stourton [aged 35] died. His brother Edward [aged 33] succeeded 10th Baron Stourton.

In 1590 John Arundell [aged 60] died.

On 22nd September 1602 [his former wife] Anne Stanley Baroness Stourton [aged 60] died.

[his son] George Arundell was born to John Arundell and Anne Stanley Baroness Stourton.

[his son] Thomas Arundell was born to John Arundell and Anne Stanley Baroness Stourton.
