In 1589 William Douglas 1st Marquess Douglas was born to William Douglas 10th Earl Angus [aged 37] and Elizabeth Oliphant Countess Angus.

On 1st July 1591 [his grandfather] William Douglas 9th Earl Angus [aged 58] died at Glenbervie. His son [his father] William [aged 39] succeeded 10th Earl Angus.

Around 1601 [his daughter] Margaret Douglas was born to William Douglas 1st Marquess Douglas [aged 12] and [his wife] Margaret Hamilton Countess Angus [aged 16].

In 1601 William Douglas 1st Marquess Douglas [aged 12] and Margaret Hamilton Countess Angus [aged 16] were married. He the son of William Douglas 10th Earl Angus [aged 49] and Elizabeth Oliphant Countess Angus. They were half third cousin once removed.

Around 1602 [his daughter] Jean Douglas was born to William Douglas 1st Marquess Douglas [aged 13] and [his wife] Margaret Hamilton Countess Angus [aged 17]. She married 1632 her second cousin John Hamilton 1st Lord of Bargeny and had issue.

On 10th April 1606 [his brother-in-law] James Hamilton 1st Earl Abercorn [aged 30] was created 1st Earl Abercorn. Marion Boyd Countess Abercorn [aged 23] by marriage Countess Abercorn.

In 1609 [his son] Archibald Douglas 1st Earl Ormonde 12th Earl Angus was born to William Douglas 1st Marquess Douglas [aged 20] and [his wife] Margaret Hamilton Countess Angus [aged 24]. He married 1628 his fourth cousin once removed Anne Stewart, daughter of Esmé Stewart 3rd Duke Lennox and Katherine Clifton Duchess Lennox, and had issue.

On 3rd March 1611 [his father] William Douglas 10th Earl Angus [aged 59] died. His son William [aged 22] succeeded 11th Earl Angus. [his wife] Margaret Hamilton Countess Angus [aged 26] by marriage Countess Angus.

On 14th April 1616 [his daughter] Grizel Douglas was born to William Douglas 1st Marquess Douglas [aged 27] and [his wife] Margaret Hamilton Countess Angus [aged 31].

In 1617 [his son] James Douglas was born to William Douglas 1st Marquess Douglas [aged 28] and [his wife] Margaret Hamilton Countess Angus [aged 32].

On 23rd March 1618 [his brother-in-law] James Hamilton 1st Earl Abercorn [aged 42] died. His son James [aged 14] succeeded 2nd Earl Abercorn.

On 11th September 1623 [his wife] Margaret Hamilton Countess Angus [aged 38] died.

In 1628 Archibald Douglas 1st Earl Ormonde 12th Earl Angus [aged 19] and Anne Stewart [aged 14] were married. She the daughter of Esmé Stewart 3rd Duke Lennox and Katherine Clifton Duchess Lennox [aged 36]. He the son of William Douglas 1st Marquess Douglas [aged 39] and Margaret Hamilton Countess Angus. They were fourth cousin once removed.

In 1632 [his son-in-law] John Hamilton 1st Lord of Bargeny and Jean Douglas [aged 30] were married. She the daughter of William Douglas 1st Marquess Douglas [aged 43] and Margaret Hamilton Countess Angus. They were second cousins.

On 24th December 1634 [his son] William Hamilton 1st Duke Hamilton was born to William Douglas 1st Marquess Douglas [aged 45] and [his wife] Mary Gordon Marchioness Douglas [aged 34]. He married 29th April 1656 his third cousin Anne Hamilton 3rd Duchess Hamilton, daughter of James Hamilton 1st Duke Hamilton and Margaret aka Mary Feilding, and had issue.

In 1635 [his son] George Douglas 1st Earl Dumbarton was born to William Douglas 1st Marquess Douglas [aged 46] and [his wife] Mary Gordon Marchioness Douglas [aged 35]. He married in or before 1687 Anne Wheatley.

On 13th June 1636 [his father-in-law] George Gordon 1st Marquess Huntly [aged 74] died. His son [his brother-in-law] George [aged 44] succeeded 2nd Marquess Huntly, 7th Earl Huntley. Anna Campbell Marchioness Huntly by marriage Marchioness Huntly.

Around April 1642 [his daughter] Isabel Douglas Countess Queensberry was born to William Douglas 1st Marquess Douglas [aged 53] and [his wife] Mary Gordon Marchioness Douglas [aged 42]. She married 1657 her fourth cousin William Douglas 1st Duke Queensberry, son of James Douglas 2nd Earl Queensberry and Margaret Stewart Countess Queensberry, and had issue.

Between 1643 and 1655 [his daughter] Jean Douglas was born to William Douglas 1st Marquess Douglas [aged 54] and [his wife] Mary Gordon Marchioness Douglas [aged 43]. She married 18th January 1670 her first cousin once removed James Drummond 1st Duke Perth, son of James Drummond 3rd Earl Perth and Anne Gordon, and had issue.

Between 1644 and 1654 [his daughter] Lucy Douglas Countess Nithsdale was born to William Douglas 1st Marquess Douglas [aged 55] and [his wife] Mary Gordon Marchioness Douglas [aged 44]. She married 25th March 1669 her fourth cousin Robert Maxwell 4th Earl Nithsdale, son of John Maxwell 3rd Earl Nithsdale, and had issue.

Around 1645 William Douglas 1st Marquess Douglas [aged 56] was created 1st Marquess Douglas. [his wife] Mary Gordon Marchioness Douglas [aged 45] by marriage Marchioness Douglas.

In 1645 [his son] James Douglas [aged 28] died.

In March 1649 [his brother-in-law] George Gordon 2nd Marquess Huntly [aged 57] died. His son Lewis [aged 23] succeeded 3rd Marquess Huntly, 8th Earl Huntley.

On 15th January 1655 [his son] Archibald Douglas 1st Earl Ormonde 12th Earl Angus [aged 46] died. He was buried at Douglas Vault St Bride's Church.

On 29th April 1656 William Hamilton 1st Duke Hamilton [aged 21] and Anne Hamilton 3rd Duchess Hamilton [aged 24] were married. She by marriage Countess Selkirk. He by marriage Duke Hamilton. She the daughter of James Hamilton 1st Duke Hamilton and Margaret aka Mary Feilding. He the son of William Douglas 1st Marquess Douglas [aged 67] and Mary Gordon Marchioness Douglas [aged 56]. They were third cousins.

In 1657 [his son-in-law] William Douglas 1st Duke Queensberry [aged 20] and Isabel Douglas Countess Queensberry [aged 14] were married. She the daughter of William Douglas 1st Marquess Douglas [aged 68] and Mary Gordon Marchioness Douglas [aged 57]. He the son of James Douglas 2nd Earl Queensberry [aged 34] and Margaret Stewart Countess Queensberry. They were fourth cousins.

On 1st January 1660 [his daughter] Margaret Douglas [aged 59] died.

On 19th February 1660 William Douglas 1st Marquess Douglas [aged 71] died at Douglas Castle, Douglas. His grandson James [aged 14] succeeded 2nd Marquess Douglas.

Around 1674 [his former wife] Mary Gordon Marchioness Douglas [aged 74] died.
