On 26th June 1626 [his father] James Stanley 7th Earl of Derby [aged 19] and [his mother] Charlotte Thouars Countess Derby [aged 26] were married. She by marriage Baroness Strange Knockin. She the daughter of [his grandfather] Claude de La Tremoille 2nd Duke Thouars and [his grandmother] Charlotte Flandrina Orange Nassau [aged 46]. He the son of William Stanley 6th Earl of Derby [aged 65] and Elizabeth Vere Countess Derby [aged 50].
On 19th January 1628 Charles Stanley 8th Earl of Derby was born to James Stanley 7th Earl of Derby [aged 20] and Charlotte Thouars Countess Derby [aged 28]. He a great x 4 grandson of King Henry VII of England and Ireland.
On 29th September 1642 [his grandfather] William Stanley 6th Earl of Derby [aged 81] died. His son [his father] James [aged 35] succeeded 7th Earl Derby. [his mother] Charlotte Thouars Countess Derby [aged 42] by marriage Countess Derby.
Between September 1651 and November 1651 a rebellion against the Royalist leader of the Isle of Man [his father] James Stanley 7th Earl of Derby [aged 44] who had been captured at the Battle of Worcester. His wife [his mother] Charlotte Thouars Countess Derby [aged 51] resisted the rebels with the aid of Philip Musgrave 2nd Baronet [aged 44] and Illiam Dhone (her husband's Receiver General). The Countess eventually surrendered after hearing of her husband's death. Illiam Dhone changed sides and worked with Parliamentarian soldiers to achieve a bloodless coup. Illiam Dhone was eventually arrested by the Earl's son Charles Stanley 8th Earl of Derby [aged 23] and executed by firing squad at Hango Hill on 2nd January 1663.
On 15th October 1651 [his father] James Stanley 7th Earl of Derby [aged 44] died. His son Charles [aged 23] succeeded 8th Earl Derby, 2nd Baron Strange Knockin.
On 27th February 1654 [his brother-in-law] William Wentworth 2nd Earl Strafford [aged 27] and [his sister] Henriette Stanley Countess Strafford [aged 23] were married. She the daughter of [his father] James Stanley 7th Earl of Derby and [his mother] Charlotte Thouars Countess Derby [aged 54]. He the son of Thomas Wentworth 1st Earl Strafford and Arabella Holles. They were fourth cousins. She a great x 4 granddaughter of King Henry VII of England and Ireland.
Before 1655 Charles Stanley 8th Earl of Derby [aged 26] and Dorothea Helena Kirkoven Countess Derby [aged 24] were married. She by marriage Countess Derby. She the daughter of Jehan Lord of Heenvliet [aged 60] and Katherine Wotton Countess Chesterfield [aged 45]. He the son of James Stanley 7th Earl of Derby and Charlotte Thouars Countess Derby [aged 55].
Around 1655 [his son] William Stanley 9th Earl of Derby was born to Charles Stanley 8th Earl of Derby [aged 26] and [his wife] Dorothea Helena Kirkoven Countess Derby [aged 25]. He married 1673 his half third cousin Elizabeth Butler Countess Derby, daughter of Thomas Butler 6th Earl Ossory and Emilia Nassau Beverweert Countess Ossory, and had issue.
On 12th September 1656 Philip Stanhope 1st Earl Chesterfield [aged 72] died. His grandson [his brother-in-law] Philip [aged 22] succeeded 2nd Earl Chesterfield, 2nd Baron Stanhope of Shelford in Nottinghamshire.
On 5th May 1659 [his brother-in-law] John Murray 1st Marquess Atholl [aged 28] and [his sister] Amelia Stanley Marchioness Atholl [aged 26] were married. She the daughter of [his father] James Stanley 7th Earl of Derby and [his mother] Charlotte Thouars Countess Derby [aged 59]. He the son of John Murray 1st Earl Atholl and Jean Campbell Countess Atholl.
In 1662 [his brother-in-law] William Wentworth 2nd Earl Strafford [aged 35] was restored 2nd Earl Strafford, 2nd Viscount Wentworth, 2nd Baron Wentworth, 3rd Baronet Wentworth of Wentworth Woodhouse in Yorkshire. [his sister] Henriette Stanley Countess Strafford [aged 31] by marriage Countess Strafford.
Jean de Waurin's Chronicle of England Volume 6 Books 3-6: The Wars of the Roses
Jean de Waurin was a French Chronicler, from the Artois region, who was born around 1400, and died around 1474. Waurin’s Chronicle of England, Volume 6, covering the period 1450 to 1471, from which we have selected and translated Chapters relating to the Wars of the Roses, provides a vivid, original, contemporary description of key events some of which he witnessed first-hand, some of which he was told by the key people involved with whom Waurin had a personal relationship.

After July 1665 [his brother-in-law] Philip Stanhope 2nd Earl Chesterfield [aged 31] and Elizabeth Dormer Countess Chesterfield [aged 12] were married. She by marriage Countess Chesterfield. She the daughter of Charles Dormer 2nd Earl Carnarvon [aged 32] and Elizabeth Capell Countess Carnarvon [aged 32]. He the son of Henry Stanhope and [his mother-in-law] Katherine Wotton Countess Chesterfield [aged 56]. They were third cousin once removed.
In 1666 Charles Stanley 8th Earl of Derby [aged 37] was appointed Mayor of Liverpool.
On 9th April 1667 [his mother-in-law] Katherine Wotton Countess Chesterfield [aged 58] died. Earl Chesterfield extinct. Her son [his brother-in-law] Charles Kirkoven 1st Earl Bellomont [aged 23] inherited Boughton aka Bocton Place, Kent [Map].
On 21st December 1672 Charles Stanley 8th Earl of Derby [aged 44] died. His son William [aged 17] succeeded 9th Earl Derby, 3rd Baron Strange Knockin.
On 6th April 1673 [his former wife] Dorothea Helena Kirkoven Countess Derby [aged 43] died.
[his daughter] Charlotte Stanley was born to Charles Stanley 8th Earl of Derby and Dorothea Helena Kirkoven Countess Derby. She married before September 1694 her fourth cousin once removed Thomas Savage, son of Thomas Savage 3rd Earl Rivers and Elizabeth Scrope Countess Rivers.
