Biography of William de Braose 9th Baron Abergavenny 7th Baron Bramber 1204-1230

Around 1204 William de Braose 9th Baron Abergavenny 7th Baron Bramber was born to [his father] Reginald de Braose 8th Baron Abergavenny 6th Baron Bramber and [his mother] Graecia Briwere.

Before 1215 [his father] Reginald de Braose 8th Baron Abergavenny 6th Baron Bramber and [his mother] Graecia Briwere were married.

Around 1215 [his father] Reginald de Braose 8th Baron Abergavenny 6th Baron Bramber and [his step-mother] Gwladus verch Llewelyn "Dark Eyed" Aberffraw (age 20) were married. They were half fifth cousin once removed. She a granddaughter of King John of England.

In 1215 [his uncle] Bishop Giles de Braose 7th Baron Braose 5th Baron Bramber died. His brother [his father] Reginald succeeded 8th Baron Abergavenny Feudal Creation, 6th Baron Bramber Feudal. He seized his father's lands by force following the death of his brother Giles rousing the anger of Llewellyn "The Great" Aberffraw (age 43) whose men attacked de Braose lands in Brecon and Abergavenny and Gower. Abergavenny Castle had to be rebuilt as a result.

She married 1230 her half fourth cousin Dafydd ap Llewellyn Aberffraw Prince of Wales, son of Llewellyn "The Great" Aberffraw and Joan Plantagenet.

On 23rd April 1224 [his brother-in-law] William "The Younger" Marshal 2nd Earl Pembroke (age 34) and Eleanor Plantagenet Countess Pembroke and Leicester (age 9) were married. She by marriage Countess Pembroke. The difference in their ages was 25 years. She the daughter of King John of England and Isabella of Angoulême Queen Consort England (age 36). He the son of William Marshal 1st Earl Pembroke and Isabel Clare Countess Pembroke. They were fifth cousins.

On 13th October 1225 William Warenne 5th Earl of Surrey and [his sister-in-law] Maud Marshal Countess Norfolk and Surrey (age 31) were married. She the daughter of William Marshal 1st Earl Pembroke and Isabel Clare Countess Pembroke. He the son of Hamelin Warenne Earl of Surrey and Isabella Warenne Countess Boulogne 4th Countess of Surrey. They were half second cousin once removed.

In 1227 [his daughter] Eva de Braose was born to William de Braose 9th Baron Abergavenny 7th Baron Bramber (age 23) and [his wife] Eva Marshal (age 24). She married before 15th February 1248 William Cantilupe and had issue.

Around 1228 [his daughter] Eleanor de Braose was born to William de Braose 9th Baron Abergavenny 7th Baron Bramber (age 24) and [his wife] Eva Marshal (age 25). She married after 12th August 1241 her fourth cousin Humphrey Bohun, son of Humphrey Bohun 2nd Earl Hereford 1st Earl Essex and Matilda Lusignan Countess Hereford and Essex, and had issue.

In June 1228 [his father] Reginald de Braose 8th Baron Abergavenny 6th Baron Bramber died at Brecon [Map]. His son William (age 24) succeeded 9th Baron Abergavenny Feudal Creation, 7th Baron Bramber Feudal.

In 1230 [his son-in-law] Dafydd ap Llewellyn Aberffraw Prince of Wales (age 17) and [his daughter] Isabella "Lady of Snowdon" Braose Princess Wales (age 8) were married. Sometime before 2nd May 1230 William de Braose 9th Baron Abergavenny 7th Baron Bramber (age 26) was captured by Llewellyn "The Great" Aberffraw (age 58) in the bedchamber of his wife Joan Plantagenet (age 39).

His first cousin John (age 33) succeeded 8th Baron Bramber Feudal.

Chronicle of the Princes of Wales. 1230. That year, William Bruse (age 26) was hanged by Llywelyn (age 58), son of Iorwerth, having been caught in the chamber of the prince, with the princess Jannet (age 39), daughter of king John, and wife of the prince.

In 1246 [his former wife] Eva Marshal (age 43) died.
