She the daughter of [his grandfather] Amadeus Savoy III Count Savoy [aged 51] and [his grandmother] Mahaut Albon Countess Savoy. He the son of Henry Burgundy Count Portugal and Teresa Alfónsez Jiménez.
On 11th November 1154 Sancho "Populator" I King Portugal was born to Afonso "Conqueror Founder Great" I King Portugal [aged 45] and Malfada Savoy Queen Consort Portugal [aged 29]. His nickname "Populator" not a consequence of the number of children he fathered, over sixty apparently, but his policy of populating remote areas in the northern Christian regions of Portugal.
On 3rd December 1157 [his mother] Malfada Savoy Queen Consort Portugal [aged 32] died.
Before 15th August 1171 [his brother-in-law] Ferdinand II King Leon [aged 34] and [his sister] Urraca Burgundy Queen Consort Leon [aged 23] were married. She by marriage Queen Consort Leon. She the daughter of [his father] Afonso "Conqueror Founder Great" I King Portugal [aged 62] and [his mother] Malfada Savoy Queen Consort Portugal. He the son of Alfonso VII King Castile VII King Leon and Berenguela Barcelona Queen Consort Castile and Leon. They were half second cousins.
In 1176 [his daughter] Theresa of Portugal Queen Consort Leon was born to Sancho "Populator" I King Portugal [aged 21] and Dulce Barcelona Queen Consort Portugal. She married 1191 her first cousin Alfonso IX King Leon, son of Ferdinand II King Leon and Urraca Burgundy Queen Consort Leon, and had issue.
In 1180 [his daughter] Sancha Burgundy was born to Sancho "Populator" I King Portugal [aged 25] and Dulce Barcelona Queen Consort Portugal.
In May 1182 [his son] Constanza Burgundy was born to Sancho "Populator" I King Portugal [aged 27] and Dulce Barcelona Queen Consort Portugal.
On 23rd April 1185 [his son] Alfonso "Fat" II King Portugal was born to Sancho "Populator" I King Portugal [aged 30] and Dulce Barcelona Queen Consort Portugal at Coimbra. He married 1206 his second cousin once removed Urraca Ivrea Queen Consort Portugal, daughter of Alfonso VIII King Castile and Eleanor Plantagenet Queen Consort Castile, and had issue.
Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough
A canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: 'In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed.'
