On 2nd January 1694 [his father] James Scott [aged 19] and [his mother] Henrietta Hyde Countess Dalkeith [aged 17] were married. She by marriage Countess Dalkeith. She the daughter of [his grandfather] Lawrence Hyde 1st Earl Rochester [aged 51] and [his grandmother] Henrietta Boyle Countess Rochester. He the son of James Scott 1st Duke Monmouth 1st Duke Buccleuch and Anne Scott Duchess Monmouth and Buccleuch [aged 42].

On 11th January 1695 Francis Scott 2nd Duke Buccleuch was born to James Scott [aged 20] and Henrietta Hyde Countess Dalkeith [aged 18]. He was baptised on 20th January 1695 at St Margaret's Church, Westminster [Map]. He a great grandson of King Charles II of England Scotland and Ireland.

On 14th March 1705 [his father] James Scott [aged 30] died.

Around 1707 Francis Scott 2nd Duke Buccleuch [aged 11] educated at Eton College [Map].

On 5th April 1720 Francis Scott 2nd Duke Buccleuch [aged 25] and Jane Douglas were married at Earl of Rochester's House Privy Gardens Whitehall Palace. She the daughter of James Douglas 2nd Duke Queensberry and Mary Boyle Duchess Queensbury. He the son of James Scott and Henrietta Hyde Countess Dalkeith [aged 43]. They were second cousins. He a great grandson of King Charles II of England Scotland and Ireland.

On 19th February 1721 [his son] Francis Scott was born to Francis Scott 2nd Duke Buccleuch [aged 26] and [his wife] Jane Douglas. He a great x 2 grandson of King Charles II of England Scotland and Ireland. Coefficient of inbreeding 1.65%. He married 2nd October 1742 his fourth cousin once removed Caroline Campbell 1st Baroness Greenwich, daughter of John Campbell 2nd Duke Argyll and Jane Warburton Duchess of Argyll, and had issue.

On 12th March 1724 Francis Scott 2nd Duke Buccleuch [aged 29] was appointed Fellow of the Royal Society.

On 2nd February 1725 Francis Scott 2nd Duke Buccleuch [aged 30] was appointed 25th Knight of the Thistle.

In 1729 [his wife] Jane Douglas died. She was buried at Dalkeith Castle, Dalkeith.

The History of William Marshal was commissioned by his son shortly after William’s death in 1219 to celebrate the Marshal’s remarkable life; it is an authentic, contemporary voice. The manuscript was discovered in 1861 by French historian Paul Meyer. Meyer published the manuscript in its original Anglo-French in 1891 in two books. This book is a line by line translation of the first of Meyer’s books; lines 1-10152. Book 1 of the History begins in 1139 and ends in 1194. It describes the events of the Anarchy, the role of William’s father John, John’s marriages, William’s childhood, his role as a hostage at the siege of Newbury, his injury and imprisonment in Poitou where he met Eleanor of Aquitaine and his life as a knight errant. It continues with the accusation against him of an improper relationship with Margaret, wife of Henry the Young King, his exile, and return, the death of Henry the Young King, the rebellion of Richard, the future King Richard I, war with France, the death of King Henry II, and the capture of King Richard, and the rebellion of John, the future King John. It ends with the release of King Richard and the death of John Marshal.

On 30th May 1730 [his mother] Henrietta Hyde Countess Dalkeith [aged 53] died.

On 6th February 1732 [his grandmother] Anne Scott Duchess Monmouth and Buccleuch [aged 80] died. Her grandson Francis [aged 37] succeeded 2nd Duke Buccleuch.

On 2nd October 1742 Francis Scott [aged 21] and Caroline Campbell 1st Baroness Greenwich [aged 24] were married. She the daughter of John Campbell 2nd Duke Argyll [aged 61] and Jane Warburton Duchess of Argyll. He the son of Francis Scott 2nd Duke Buccleuch [aged 47] and Jane Douglas. They were fourth cousin once removed. He a great x 2 grandson of King Charles II of England Scotland and Ireland.

On 22nd March 1743 Francis Scott 2nd Duke Buccleuch [aged 48] was restored 2nd Earl Doncaster, 2nd Baron Scott of Tynedale.

On 4th September 1744 Francis Scott 2nd Duke Buccleuch [aged 49] and Alice Powell Duchess Buccleuch [aged 42] were married. She by marriage Duchess Buccleuch, Countess Doncaster. He the son of James Scott and Henrietta Hyde Countess Dalkeith.

On 18th April 1745 Francis Scott 2nd Duke Buccleuch [aged 50] was awarded Doctor of Civil Law at Oxford University.

On 1st April 1750 [his son] Francis Scott [aged 29] died of smallpox. He was buried at Buccleuch Crypt, St Nicholas Church, Dalkeith.

On 22nd April 1751 Francis Scott 2nd Duke Buccleuch [aged 56] died. He was buried at Eton College Chapel [Map]. His grandson Henry [aged 4] succeeded 3rd Duke Buccleuch, 3rd Earl Doncaster, 3rd Baron Scott of Tynedale.

On 13th December 1765 [his former wife] Alice Powell Duchess Buccleuch [aged 63] died.

On 21st November 1827 [his granddaughter-in-law] Elizabeth Montagu Duchess Buccleuch [aged 84] died. Monument in St Edmund's Church, Warkton [Map]. Sculpted by Thomas Campbell [aged 37]. Erected by her grandson Francis Scott 2nd Duke Buccleuch. The quotation upon her monument from Book of the Acts of the Apostles Chapter 10 Verses 31: "Thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God".

Elizabeth Montagu Duchess Buccleuch: On 29th May 1743 she was born to George Brudenell aka Montagu 1st Duke Montagu and Mary Montagu Duchess of Montagu. On 2nd May 1767 Henry Scott 3rd Duke Buccleuch and she were married at Montagu House Whitehall Palace. She by marriage Duchess Buccleuch. She the daughter of George Brudenell aka Montagu 1st Duke Montagu and Mary Montagu Duchess of Montagu. He the son of Francis Scott and Caroline Campbell 1st Baroness Greenwich. They were fourth cousins. He a great x 3 grandson of King Charles II of England Scotland and Ireland.
