In July 1563 [her father] Charles Howard 1st Earl Nottingham [aged 27] and [her mother] Katherine Carey Countess Nottingham [aged 13] were married. They were half first cousin twice removed.

On 3rd March 1564 Elizabeth Howard Countess Carrick was born to Charles Howard 1st Earl Nottingham [aged 28] and Katherine Carey Countess Nottingham [aged 14] at Effingham, Surrey [Map]. Queen Elizabeth I of England and Ireland [aged 30] was her Godmother.

On 12th January 1573 [her grandfather] William Howard 1st Baron Howard [aged 63] died at Hampton Court Palace, Richmond [Map]. He was buried at Reigate, Surrey [Map]. His son [her father] Charles [aged 37] succeeded 2nd Baron Howard of Effingham. [her mother] Katherine Carey Countess Nottingham [aged 23] by marriage Baroness Howard of Effingham.

In 1576 Elizabeth Howard Countess Carrick [aged 11] was appointed Maid of Honour to Queen Elizabeth I of England and Ireland [aged 42] which position she held until 1583.

On 4th October 1581 Henry Wriothesley 2nd Earl of Southampton [aged 36] died. His son Henry [aged 7] succeeded 3rd Earl of Southampton. His wardship was sold by the Queen to her kinsman, [her father] Charles, Lord Howard of Effingham [aged 45], for £1000. Howard then transferred his wardship to William Cecil 1st Baron Burghley [aged 61].

On 3rd March 1583 [her daughter] Elizabeth Southwell was born to Robert Southwell [aged 14] and Elizabeth Howard Countess Carrick [aged 19]. She married 1606 her first cousin once removed Robert Dudley, son of Robert Dudley 1st Earl of Leicester and Douglas Howard Baroness Sheffield.

In 1589 [her brother-in-law] Henry Fitzgerald 12th Earl of Kildare [aged 27] and [her sister] Frances Howard Countess Kildare were married. She by marriage Countess Kildare. She the daughter of [her father] Charles Howard 1st Earl Nottingham [aged 53] and [her mother] Katherine Carey Countess Nottingham [aged 39]. He the son of Gerald "Wizard Earl" Fitzgerald 11th Earl of Kildare and Mabel Browne Countess Kildare [aged 53]. They were fifth cousin once removed.

In 1593 [her daughter] Catherine Southwell Baroness Latimer and Willoughby Broke was born to Robert Southwell [aged 24] and Elizabeth Howard Countess Carrick [aged 28]. She married 13th May 1618 her sixth cousin Greville Verney 15th Baron Latimer 7th Baron Willoughby, son of Richard Verney 14th Baron Latimer 6th Baron Willoughby and Margaret Greville 14th Baroness Latimer 6th Baroness Willoughby of Broke, and had issue.

In 1596 [her son] Thomas Southwell was born to Robert Southwell [aged 27] and Elizabeth Howard Countess Carrick [aged 31].

On 19th May 1597 [her brother] Charles Howard 2nd Earl Nottingham [aged 17] and [her sister-in-law] Charity White were married. He the son of [her father] Charles Howard 1st Earl Nottingham [aged 61] and [her mother] Katherine Carey Countess Nottingham [aged 47].

Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke

Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson.

In 1601 [her brother-in-law] Henry Brooke 11th Baron Cobham [aged 36] and [her sister] Frances Howard Countess Kildare were married. She the daughter of [her father] Charles Howard 1st Earl Nottingham [aged 65] and [her mother] Katherine Carey Countess Nottingham [aged 51]. They were third cousin once removed.

On 25th February 1603 [her mother] Katherine Carey Countess Nottingham [aged 53] died at Arundel House [Map]. She was buried in Chelsea Old Church on 25th April 1603.

In September 1603 [her father] Charles Howard 1st Earl Nottingham [aged 67] and [her step-mother] Margaret Stewart 1st Countess Nottingham [aged 12] were married. She by marriage Countess Nottingham. The difference in their ages was 55 years. She the daughter of James "The Bonnie Earl" Stewart 2nd Earl of Moray and Elizabeth Stewart 2nd Countess Moray. They were half fourth cousin twice removed. She a great x 3 granddaughter of King Henry VII of England and Ireland.

In 1604 John Stewart 1st Earl Carrick [aged 38] and Elizabeth Howard Countess Carrick [aged 39] were married. She the daughter of Charles Howard 1st Earl Nottingham [aged 68] and Katherine Carey Countess Nottingham. He the son of Robert Stewart 1st Earl Orkney [aged 71] and Jean Kennedy Countess Orkney. They were half fifth cousins. He a great x 2 grandson of King Henry VII of England and Ireland.

In 1606 [her son-in-law] Robert Dudley [aged 31] and Elizabeth Southwell [aged 22] were married at Lyon, France [Map]. Bigamous in his case since his second wife Alice Leigh 1st Duchess Dudley [aged 28] was alive. She the daughter of Robert Southwell and Elizabeth Howard Countess Carrick [aged 41]. He the illegitmate son of Robert Dudley 1st Earl of Leicester and Douglas Howard Baroness Sheffield [aged 64]. They were first cousin once removed.

In May 1614 [her son-in-law] Edward Rodney [aged 23] and Frances Southwell were married at Somerset House [Map]. She the daughter of Robert Southwell and Elizabeth Howard Countess Carrick [aged 50]. They were half fourth cousin twice removed.

On 6th February 1615 [her husband] John Stewart 1st Earl Carrick [aged 49] died.

On 13th May 1618 [her son-in-law] Greville Verney 15th Baron Latimer 7th Baron Willoughby [aged 32] and Catherine Southwell Baroness Latimer and Willoughby Broke [aged 25] were married. She the daughter of Robert Southwell and Elizabeth Howard Countess Carrick [aged 54]. They were sixth cousins.

On 22nd April 1620 [her brother] Charles Howard 2nd Earl Nottingham [aged 40] and [her sister-in-law] Mary Cockayne 1st Countess Nottingham were married. She by marriage Countess Nottingham. She the daughter of William Cockayne [aged 59] and Mary Morris Countess Dover [aged 55]. He the son of [her father] Charles Howard 1st Earl Nottingham [aged 84] and [her mother] Katherine Carey Countess Nottingham.

On 14th December 1624 [her father] Charles Howard 1st Earl Nottingham [aged 88] died. His son [her brother] Charles [aged 45] succeeded 2nd Earl Nottingham, 3rd Baron Howard of Effingham. [her sister-in-law] Mary Cockayne 1st Countess Nottingham by marriage Countess Nottingham.

Jean de Waurin's Chronicle of England Volume 6 Books 3-6: The Wars of the Roses

Jean de Waurin was a French Chronicler, from the Artois region, who was born around 1400, and died around 1474. Waurin’s Chronicle of England, Volume 6, covering the period 1450 to 1471, from which we have selected and translated Chapters relating to the Wars of the Roses, provides a vivid, original, contemporary description of key events some of which he witnessed first-hand, some of which he was told by the key people involved with whom Waurin had a personal relationship.

On 13th September 1631 [her daughter] Elizabeth Southwell [aged 48] died of plague in Florence, Tuscany.

On 3rd October 1642 Charles Howard 2nd Earl Nottingham [aged 63] died. His half brother Charles [aged 31] succeeded 3rd Earl Nottingham, 4th Baron Howard of Effingham. Arabella Smith Countess Nottingham by marriage Countess Nottingham.

In 1643 [her son] Thomas Southwell [aged 47] died.

Before 31st March 1646 Elizabeth Howard Countess Carrick [aged 82] died at Greenwich, Kent [Map]. She was buried On 31st March 1646.

Robert Southwell and Elizabeth Howard Countess Carrick were married. She the daughter of Charles Howard 1st Earl Nottingham and Katherine Carey Countess Nottingham.

[her daughter] Frances Southwell was born to Robert Southwell and Elizabeth Howard Countess Carrick. She married May 1614 her half fourth cousin twice removed Edward Rodney and had issue.
