On 13th August 1582 [her future husband] Edward Coke (age 30) and Bridget Paston were married.

On 28th February 1587 [her brother-in-law] William Paulet 4th Marquess Winchester (age 28) and [her sister] Lucy Cecil Marchioness Winchester were married at St Martin in the Fields Church [Map]. She the daughter of [her father] Thomas Cecil 1st Earl Exeter (age 44) and [her mother] Dorothy Neville Countess Exeter (age 39). On 20th November 1591 Christopher Hatton (age 51) died. His estates were inherited by his nephew [her future husband] William Newport aka Hatton (age 31) who took the name Hatton.

The Chronicle of Walter of Guisborough, a canon regular of the Augustinian Guisborough Priory, Yorkshire, formerly known as The Chronicle of Walter of Hemingburgh, describes the period from 1066 to 1346. Before 1274 the Chronicle is based on other works. Thereafter, the Chronicle is original, and a remarkable source for the events of the time. This book provides a translation of the Chronicle from that date. The Latin source for our translation is the 1849 work edited by Hans Claude Hamilton. Hamilton, in his preface, says: "In the present work we behold perhaps one of the finest samples of our early chronicles, both as regards the value of the events recorded, and the correctness with which they are detailed; Nor will the pleasing style of composition be lightly passed over by those capable of seeing reflected from it the tokens of a vigorous and cultivated mind, and a favourable specimen of the learning and taste of the age in which it was framed." On 4th August 1598 [her grandfather] William Cecil 1st Baron Burghley (age 77) died. His son [her father] Thomas (age 56) succeeded 2nd Baron Burghley. He was buried at St Martin's Church, Stamford [Map] with a large free-standing Elizabethan Period monument under the north chapel arch, in coloured marbles with a figure on tomb chest under an arched canopy supported on paired columns. Attributed to Cornelius Cure. The emblem of the Knights of the Garter on William's left shoulder. Leg Garter. In his right-hand he is holding the Lord Treasurer Staff of Office; originally white.

The inscription on the monument is on contained within three panels: two on the south (Chancel) side, and one on the north (Chapel) side.

The most honourable and far renowned Lord William Cecil, Baron of Burghley, Lord High Treasurer of England, President of the Court of Wards, knight of the most noble order of the Garter, Privy Counsellor to the most serene Elizabeth, Queen of England, &c., and Chancellor of the University of Cambridge, under this tomb awaits the second coming of Christ: Who for the excellent endowments of the mind, was first made Privy Counsellor to Edward the sixth, King of England; afterwards to Queen Elizabeth: under whom being intrusted with the greatest and most weighty affairs of this kingdom, and above all others approved, in promoting the true religion, and providing for the safety and honour of the commonwealth; by his prudence, honesty, integrity, and great services to the nation, he obtained the highest honours: and when he had long enough to nature, long enough for glory, but not long enough to his country, quietly fell asleep in Christ. Mary Cheke: she was born to Peter Cheke. In 1541 William Cecil 1st Baron Burghley and she were married. In February 1543 Mary Cheke died.

Elizabeth Cecil: On 1st July 1564 she was born to William Cecil 1st Baron Burghley and Mildred Cooke Baroness Burghley. On 26th February 1582 William Wentworth and she were married.

On 8th February 1608 [her step-son] Arthur Coke (age 21) and Elizabeth Waldegrave were married at Hitcham, Norfolk as recorded in the papers of the Winthrop Family Folio 36: "The viijth of Feb. beinge Shrovetuesday the L Cokes seconde soonne maryed the daughter and heire of Sir George Waldegrave at Hiccham". The Hitcham Register gives 09 Feb as the date of the marriage.

In 1609 [her mother] Dorothy Neville Countess Exeter (age 61) died.

In 1610 [her father] Thomas Cecil 1st Earl Exeter (age 67) and [her step-mother] Frances Brydges Countess Exeter (age 30) were married. She by marriage Countess Exeter. The difference in their ages was 37 years.

Before 1614 [her brother-in-law] Edward Denny 1st Earl Norwich (age 44) and [her sister] Mary Cecil Countess Norwich were married. She the daughter of [her father] Thomas Cecil 1st Earl Exeter (age 71) and [her mother] Dorothy Neville Countess Exeter. They were half second cousin once removed.

On 3rd September 1634 [her husband] Edward Coke (age 82) died. Monument in Church of St Mary the Virgin, Tittleshall [Map]. Simple sarcophagus on pedestal with lying effigy. Pair of flanking Tuscan columns supporting a full entablature with putti on frieze and broken segmental pediment. Carved and painted achievement in and above tympanum flanked by four reclining figures of the Virtues on pediment extrados.

Above. Quarterly of eight: Coke Arms, Crispin, Folkard, Sparham, Nerford, Yarmouth, Knightley Arms and Pawe. The crest is broken. Farrer says it was: On a chapeau Azure, turned up Ermine, an ostrich Argent, holding in its mouth a horseshoe Or. The motto reads Prudens qui Patiens.

The effigy was carved by John Hargrave, the rest of the memorial was made by Nicholas Stone (age 47).

Below the effigy are three shields. Left Coke Arms implaling Paston Arms. His first wife Bridget Paston. Middle Coke Arms. Right Coke Arms impaling Cecil Arms; his second wife [her niece] Elizabeth Cecil Countess Berkshire (age 38).

Bridget Paston: she was born to John Paston. On 13th August 1582 Edward Coke and she were married.

In 1635 John Bankes (age 46) purchased Corfe Castle, Dorset [Map] from Elizabeth Cecil Lady Hatton (age 57).

In 1635 [her brother] Edward Cecil 1st Viscount Wimbledon (age 62) and [her sister-in-law] Sophia Zouche (age 17) were married. The difference in their ages was 45 years. He the son of [her father] Thomas Cecil 1st Earl Exeter and [her mother] Dorothy Neville Countess Exeter. They were half fourth cousin twice removed.

On 18th March 1638 [her sister] Mary Cecil Countess Norwich died.
