Archibald Hamilton 9th Duke Hamilton 6th Duke Brandon 1740-1819

On 14th February 1723 [his father] James Hamilton 5th Duke Hamilton 2nd Duke Brandon [aged 20] and Anne Cochrane Duchess Hamilton Duchess Brandon [aged 17] were married. She by marriage Duchess Hamilton, Duchess Brandon of Suffolk. She the daughter of John Cochrane 4th Earl Dundonald. He the son of [his grandfather] James Hamilton Duke Hamilton, 1st Duke Brandon and [his grandmother] Elizabeth Gerard Duchess Brandon [aged 43]. They were fourth cousin once removed.

Before 3rd November 1729 [his father] James Hamilton 5th Duke Hamilton 2nd Duke Brandon [aged 26] and Elizabeth Strangeways Duchess Hamilton Duchess Brandon [aged 39] were married. She by marriage Duchess Hamilton, Duchess Brandon of Suffolk. He the son of [his grandfather] James Hamilton Duke Hamilton, 1st Duke Brandon and [his grandmother] Elizabeth Gerard Duchess Brandon [aged 49].

On 21st August 1737 [his father] James Hamilton 5th Duke Hamilton 2nd Duke Brandon [aged 34] and [his mother] Anne Spencer Duchess Hamilton Duchess Brandon [aged 27] were married. She by marriage Duchess Hamilton, Duchess Brandon of Suffolk. On 15th July 1740 Archibald Hamilton 9th Duke Hamilton 6th Duke Brandon was born to James Hamilton 5th Duke Hamilton 2nd Duke Brandon [aged 37] and Anne Spencer Duchess Hamilton Duchess Brandon [aged 30].

On 2nd March 1743 [his father] James Hamilton 5th Duke Hamilton 2nd Duke Brandon [aged 40] died. His son [his half-brother] James [aged 18] succeeded 6th Duke Hamilton, 3rd Duke Brandon of Suffolk, 3rd Baron Dutton of Cheshire.

After 2nd March 1743 [his step-father] Richard Savage Nassau [aged 19] and [his mother] Anne Spencer Duchess Hamilton Duchess Brandon [aged 33] were married.

On 17th January 1758 [his half-brother] James Hamilton 6th Duke Hamilton 3rd Duke Brandon [aged 33] died. His son [his nephew] James [aged 2] succeeded 7th Duke Hamilton, 4th Duke Brandon of Suffolk, 4th Baron Dutton of Cheshire.

On 11th September 1761 [his brother-in-law] Arthur Chichester 1st Marquess Donegal [aged 22] and [his sister] Anne Hamilton Countess Donegal [aged 23] were married. She by marriage Countess Donegal. On 25th May 1765 Archibald Hamilton 9th Duke Hamilton 6th Duke Brandon [aged 24] and Harriet Stewart were married. She the daughter of Alexander Stewart 6th Earl Galloway [aged 71] and Catherine Cochrane Countess Galloway [aged 56]. He the son of James Hamilton 5th Duke Hamilton 2nd Duke Brandon and Anne Spencer Duchess Hamilton Duchess Brandon [aged 55]. They were half fifth cousin once removed.

On 16th March 1766 [his daughter] Anne Hamilton was born to Archibald Hamilton 9th Duke Hamilton 6th Duke Brandon [aged 25] and [his wife] Harriet Stewart.

On 3rd October 1767 [his son] Alexander Hamilton 10th Duke Hamilton 7th Duke Brandon was born to Archibald Hamilton 9th Duke Hamilton 6th Duke Brandon [aged 27] and [his wife] Harriet Stewart at St James' Square. He was educated at Harrow School. He married 26th April 1810 Susanna Euphemia Beckford Duchess Hamilton Duchess Brandon and had issue.

In 1768 Granville Leveson-Gower 1st Marquess Stafford [aged 46] and [his sister-in-law] Susanna Stewart Marchioness Stafford were married. She by marriage Countess Gower. She the daughter of [his father-in-law] Alexander Stewart 6th Earl Galloway [aged 74] and [his mother-in-law] Catherine Cochrane Countess Galloway [aged 59]. He the son of John Leveson-Gower 1st Earl Gower and Evelyn Pierrepont Baroness Gower.

In 1768 Archibald Hamilton 9th Duke Hamilton 6th Duke Brandon [aged 27] was elected MP Lancashire.

In 1769 [his son] Archibald Hamilton was born to Archibald Hamilton 9th Duke Hamilton 6th Duke Brandon [aged 28] and [his wife] Harriet Stewart.

On 9th March 1771 [his mother] Anne Spencer Duchess Hamilton Duchess Brandon [aged 61] died.

In 1772 [his daughter] Charlotte Hamilton Duchess Somerset was born to Archibald Hamilton 9th Duke Hamilton 6th Duke Brandon [aged 31] and [his wife] Harriet Stewart. She married 24th June 1800 Edward Seymour 11th Duke of Somerset, son of Webb Seymour 10th Duke of Somerset and Anne Maria Bonnell Duchess Somerset, and had issue.

On 24th September 1773 [his father-in-law] Alexander Stewart 6th Earl Galloway [aged 79] died. His son [his brother-in-law] John [aged 37] succeeded 7th Earl Galloway, 6th Baronet Stewart of Corsewall, 5th Baronet Stewart of Burray in Orkney. Anne Dashwood Countess Galloway [aged 30] by marriage Countess Galloway.

In 1774 [his daughter] Susan Hamilton Countess Dunmore was born to Archibald Hamilton 9th Duke Hamilton 6th Duke Brandon [aged 33] and [his wife] Harriet Stewart. She married 1803 her first cousin George Murray 5th Earl Dunmore, son of John Murray 4th Earl Dunmore and Charlotte Stewart Countess Dunmore, and had issue.

On 11th November 1780 [his sister] Anne Hamilton Countess Donegal [aged 42] died.

In 1786 Granville Leveson-Gower 1st Marquess Stafford [aged 64] was created 1st Marquess Stafford. [his sister-in-law] Susanna Stewart Marchioness Stafford by marriage Marchioness Stafford.

In 1788 [his wife] Harriet Stewart died.

In 1799 Archibald Hamilton 9th Duke Hamilton 6th Duke Brandon [aged 58] was appointed Lord Lieutenant of Lanarkshire.

On 2nd August 1799 [his nephew] Douglas Hamilton 8th Duke Hamilton 5th Duke Brandon [aged 43] died at Hamilton Palace, Hamilton. His uncle Archibald [aged 59] succeeded 9th Duke Hamilton, 6th Duke Brandon of Suffolk, 5th Marquess Douglas, 6th Baron Dutton of Cheshire. His half brother George [aged 30] succeeded 3rd Baron Hamilton of Hameldon in Leicestershire.

On 24th June 1800 [his son-in-law] Edward Seymour 11th Duke of Somerset [aged 25] and Charlotte Hamilton Duchess Somerset [aged 28] were married. She by marriage Duchess Somerset. She the daughter of Archibald Hamilton 9th Duke Hamilton 6th Duke Brandon [aged 59] and Harriet Stewart. He the son of Webb Seymour 10th Duke of Somerset and Anne Maria Bonnell Duchess Somerset.

In 1803 [his son-in-law] George Murray 5th Earl Dunmore [aged 40] and Susan Hamilton Countess Dunmore [aged 29] were married. She the daughter of Archibald Hamilton 9th Duke Hamilton 6th Duke Brandon [aged 62] and Harriet Stewart. He the son of John Murray 4th Earl Dunmore [aged 73] and Charlotte Stewart Countess Dunmore [aged 73]. They were first cousins.

On 26th April 1810 Alexander Hamilton 10th Duke Hamilton 7th Duke Brandon [aged 42] and Susanna Euphemia Beckford Duchess Hamilton Duchess Brandon [aged 23] were married. He the son of Archibald Hamilton 9th Duke Hamilton 6th Duke Brandon [aged 69] and Harriet Stewart.

On 16th February 1819 Archibald Hamilton 9th Duke Hamilton 6th Duke Brandon [aged 78] died. His son Alexander [aged 51] succeeded 10th Duke Hamilton, 7th Duke Brandon of Suffolk, 6th Marquess Douglas, 7th Baron Dutton of Cheshire.
