On 10th June 1688 James "Old Pretender" Stewart was born to King James II of England Scotland and Ireland [aged 54] and Mary of Modena Queen Consort England Scotland and Ireland [aged 29]. Winifred Trentham [aged 43] and Charles Middleton 2nd Earl Middleton [aged 38] were present.
John Evelyn's Diary. 10th June 1688. A YOUNG PRINCE born, which will cause disputes.
John Evelyn's Diary. 17th June 1688. Was a day of thanksgiving in London and ten miles about for the young Prince's birth; a form of prayer made for the purpose by the Bishop of Rochester [aged 53].
John Evelyn's Diary. 23rd August 1688. After long trials of the doctors to bring up the little Prince of Wales by hand (so many of her [his uncle] Majesty's children having died infants) not succeeding, a country nurse, the wife of a tile maker, is taken to give it suck.
John Evelyn's Diary. 29th October 1688. There was a Council called, to which were summoned the Archbishop of Canterbury [aged 71], the Judges, the Lord Mayor, etc. The Queen Dowager [aged 49], and all the ladies and lords who were present at the [his mother] Queen Consort's [aged 30] labor, were to give their testimony upon oath of the Prince of Wales's birth, recorded both at the Council Board and at the Chancery a day or two after. This procedure was censured by some as below his [his father] Majesty [aged 55] to condescend to, on the talk of the people. It was remarkable that on this occasion the Archbishop, Marquis of Halifax [aged 54], the Earls of Clarendon and Nottingham [aged 41], refused to sit at the Council table among Papists, and their bold telling his Majesty that whatever was done while such sat among them was unlawful and incurred praemunire;-at least, if what I heard be true.
John Evelyn's Diary. 2nd December 1688. Dr. Tenison [aged 52] preached at St. Martin's [Map] on Psalm xxxvi. 5, 6, 7, concerning Providence. I received the blessed Sacrament. Afterward, visited my Lord Godolphin [aged 43], then going with the Marquis of Halifax [aged 55] and Earl of Nottingham [aged 41] as Commissioners to the [his brother-in-law] Prince of Orange [aged 38]; he told me they had little power. Plymouth, Devon [Map] declared for the Prince. Bath, Somerset [Map], York [Map], Hull [Map], Bristol, Gloucestershire [Map], and all the eminent nobility and persons of quality through England, declare for the Protestant religion and laws, and go to meet the Prince, who every day sets forth new Declarations against the Papists. The great favorites at Court, Priests and Jesuits, fly or abscond. Everything, till now concealed, flies abroad in public print, and is cried about the streets. Expectation of the Prince coming to Oxford, Oxfordshire [Map]. The Prince of Wales and great treasure sent privily to Portsmouth, Hampshire [Map], the Earl of Dover [aged 52] being Governor. John Evelyn's Diary. 24th December 1688. The [his father] King [aged 55] passes into France, whither the [his mother] Queen [aged 30] and child were gone a few days before.
On 13th December 1688 Elizabeth Waller 1st Baroness Shelburne [aged 52] was created 1st Baroness Shelburne for life only by [his father] King James II of England Scotland and Ireland [aged 55]. Her son Charles Petty 1st Baron Shelburne [aged 15] was created 1st Baron Shelburne.
On 23rd December 1688 [his father] King James II of England Scotland and Ireland [aged 55] left England for France effectively abdicating as King England Scotland and Ireland. In April 1689 Parliament made William and Mary joint monarchs; His daughter [his half-sister] Mary [aged 26] succeeded II Queen England Scotland and Ireland. His nephew [his brother-in-law] William [aged 38] succeeded III King England Scotland and Ireland.
The Deeds of the Dukes of Normandy
The Gesta Normannorum Ducum [The Deeds of the Dukes of Normandy] is a landmark medieval chronicle tracing the rise and fall of the Norman dynasty from its early roots through the pivotal events surrounding the Norman Conquest of England. In 1689 [his brother-in-law] Prince George of Denmark 1st Duke Cumberland [aged 35] was created 1st Duke Cumberland by his father-in-law King James II of England Scotland and Ireland [aged 55]. Queen Anne of England Scotland and Ireland [aged 23] by marriage Duchess Cumberland.
John Evelyn's Diary. 20th March 1692. My son was made one of the Commissioners of the Revenue and Treasury of Ireland, to which employment he had a mind, far from my wishes. I visited the Earl of Peterborough [aged 70], who showed me the picture of the Prince of Wales [aged 3], newly brought out of France, seeming in my opinion very much to resemble the Queen [aged 33] his mother, and of a most vivacious countenance.
On 28th December 1694 [his half-sister] Mary Stewart II Queen England Scotland and Ireland [aged 32] died of smallpox shortly after midnight at Kensington Palace. Her body lay in state at the Banqueting House, Whitehall Palace [Map].
On 5th March 1695 she was buried in Westminster Abbey [Map]. Archbishop Thomas Tenison [aged 58] preached the sermon.
She had reigned for five years. Her husband [his brother-in-law] King William III of England, Scotland and Ireland [aged 44] continued to reign for a further eight years.
On 26th March 1695 [his illegitimate half-brother] James Fitzjames 1st Duke Berwick [aged 24] and [his sister-in-law] Honora Burke Duchess Berwick [aged 21] were married at Saint-Germain-en-Laye, Yvelines. She by marriage Duchess Berwick. She the daughter of William Burke 7th Earl Clanricarde and Helen MacCarty Countess Clanricarde [aged 63]. He the illegitmate son of [his father] King James II of England Scotland and Ireland [aged 61] and Arabella Churchill [aged 46].
On 3rd April 1695 [his brother-in-law] Piers Butler 1st Earl Newcastle [aged 43] and [his half-sister] Henrietta Fitzjames Countess Newcastle [aged 28] were married. She by marriage Countess Newcastle in Limerick. She the daughter of [his father] King James II of England Scotland and Ireland [aged 61] and Anne Hyde Duchess of York.
On 13th January 1696 [his illegitimate half-brother] Henry Fitzjames 1st Duke Albemarle [aged 22] was created 1st Duke Albemarle Jacobite.
In 1698 [his illegitimate half-brother] James Fitzjames 1st Duke Berwick [aged 27] and [his sister-in-law] Anne Bulkeley Duchess Berwick were married. She by marriage Duchess Berwick. He the illegitmate son of [his father] King James II of England Scotland and Ireland [aged 64] and Arabella Churchill [aged 48].

In October 1699 [his brother-in-law] James Annesley 3rd Earl Anglesey [aged 25] and [his illegitimate half-sister] Catherine Darnley Duchess Buckingham and Normandby [aged 19] were married. She by marriage Countess Anglesey. She the illegitmate daughter of [his father] King James II of England Scotland and Ireland [aged 65] and Catherine Sedley Countess Dorchester and Portmore [aged 41]. He the son of James Annesley 2nd Earl Anglesey and Elizabeth Manners Countess Anglesey [aged 45]. They were fourth cousin twice removed.
On 16th September 1701 [his father] King James II of England Scotland and Ireland [aged 67] died at Château de Saint Germain en Laye. He was buried in the Church of the English Benedictines.
On 8th March 1702 [his former brother-in-law] King William III of England, Scotland and Ireland [aged 51] died of Pneumonia at Kensington Palace. His demise was the direct result of a fall from his horse, named Sorrel, which stumbled on a molehill causing King William to fall and break his collarbone. For many years afterwards, Jacobites would raise their glasses and toast "the little gentleman in the black velvet waistcoat". His first cousin [his half-sister] Anne [aged 37] succeeded I Queen England Scotland and Ireland. She, Anne, being the sister of his wife Mary Stewart II Queen England Scotland and Ireland.
In December 1702 [his illegitimate half-brother] Henry Fitzjames 1st Duke Albemarle [aged 29] died. Duke Albemarle Jacobite extinct.
Westminster Chronicle of King Richard II, 1381-1394
The Westminster Chronicle is one of the most vivid and important narrative sources for the reign of Richard II. On 15th April 1703 Charles Hope 1st Earl Hopetoun [aged 22] was created 1st Earl Hopetoun by [his half-sister] Queen Anne of England Scotland and Ireland [aged 38] in recognition of his father having given up his seat in a lifeboat to the Duke of York during the Sinking of the Gloucester; his father subsequently drowned.
On 16th March 1705 [his brother-in-law] John Sheffield 1st Duke of Buckingham and Normanby [aged 56] and [his illegitimate half-sister] Catherine Darnley Duchess Buckingham and Normandby [aged 25] were married at St Martin in the Fields Church [Map]. She by marriage Duchess of Buckingham and Normanby. The difference in their ages was 31 years. She the illegitmate daughter of [his father] King James II of England Scotland and Ireland and Catherine Sedley Countess Dorchester and Portmore [aged 47]. He the son of Edmund Sheffield 2nd Earl Mulgrave and Elizabeth Cranfield Countess Mulgrave [aged 97].
In 1707 Samuel Masham 1st Baron Masham [aged 28] and Abigail Hill Baroness Masham [aged 37] were married. [his half-sister] Queen Anne of England Scotland and Ireland [aged 41] was present. She contributed £2,000 to Abigail's dowry.

On 1st August 1714 [his half-sister] Queen Anne of England Scotland and Ireland [aged 49] died at Kensington Palace. Her second cousin George [aged 54] succeeded I King Great Britain and Ireland.
The 1715 Battle of Preston was the final action of the 1715 Jacobite Rebellion. It commenced on 9th November 1715 when Jacobite cavalry entered Preston, Lancashire [Map]. Royalist troops arrived in number over the next few days surrounding Preston forcing the Jacocobite surrender. 1463 were taken prisoner of which 463 were English. The Scottish prisoners included:
George Seton 5th Earl of Winton [aged 38]. The only prisoner to plead not guilty, sentenced to death, escaped from the Tower of London [Map] on 4th August 1716 around nine in the evening. Travelled to France then to Rome.
On 24th February 1716 William Gordon 6th Viscount Kenmure [aged 44] was beheaded on Tower Hill [Map].
On 9th February 1716 William Maxwell 5th Earl Nithsale was sentenced to be executed on 24th February 1716. The night before his wife [aged 36] effected his escape from the Tower of London [Map] by exchanging his clothes with those of her maid. They travelled to Paris then to Rome where the court of James "Old Pretender" Stewart [aged 27] was.
James Radclyffe 3rd Earl Derwentwater [aged 26] was imprisoned in the Tower of London [Map]. He was examined by the Privy Council on 10th January 1716 and impeached on 19th January 1716. He pleaded guilty in the expectation of clemency. He was attainted and condemned to death. Attempts were made to procure his pardon. His wife Anna Maria Webb Countess Derwentwater [aged 24], her sister Mary Webb [aged 21] [Note. Assumed to be her sister Mary], their aunt Anne Brudenell Duchess Richmond [aged 45], Barbara Villiers 1st Duchess of Cleveland appealed to King George I [aged 55] in person without success.
On 24th February 1716 James Radclyffe 3rd Earl Derwentwater was beheaded on Tower Hill [Map]. Earl Derwentwater, Baronet Radclyffe of Derwentwater in Cumberland forfeit.
William Murray 2nd Lord Nairne was tried on 9th February 1716 for treason, found guilty, attainted, and condemned to death. He survived long enough to benefit from the Indemnity Act of 1717.
General Thomas Forster of Adderstone [aged 31] was attainted. He was imprisoned at Newgate Prison, London [Map] but escaped to France.
The trials and sentences were overseen by the Lord High Steward William Cowper 1st Earl Cowper [aged 50] for which he subsequently received his Earldom.
On 7th May 1718 [his mother] Mary of Modena Queen Consort England Scotland and Ireland [aged 59] died.

On 31st December 1720 [his son] Charles Edward "Bonnie Prince Charlie" Stewart was born to James "Old Pretender" Stewart [aged 32] and [his wife] Maria Clementina Sobieska [aged 18] at Palazzo Muti, via del Corso. He a grandson of King James II of England Scotland and Ireland. He married 28th March 1772 Louise Stolberg Gedern.
On 11th March 1725 [his son] Cardinal Henry Benedict Stewart was born to James "Old Pretender" Stewart [aged 36] and [his wife] Maria Clementina Sobieska [aged 22]. He a grandson of King James II of England Scotland and Ireland.
On 3rd April 1730 [his half-sister] Henrietta Fitzjames Countess Newcastle [aged 63] died.
On 12th June 1734 [his illegitimate half-brother] James Fitzjames 1st Duke Berwick [aged 63] died. His son [his illegitimate nephew] James [aged 37] succeeded 2nd Duke Berwick. Catalina Ventura Colón Duchess Berwick 9th Duchess Veragua [aged 43] by marriage Duchess Berwick.
On 18th January 1735 [his wife] Maria Clementina Sobieska [aged 32] died.
