On 7th January 1355 [his daughter-in-law] Inês Castro [aged 30] was murdered on the orders of her [his son] husband's [aged 34] father Alfonso "Brave" IV King Portugal [aged 63] who didn't approve of their marriage, or relationship. He, Peter, subsequently captured two of the murderers and had them executed.

On 18th January 1357 [his daughter] Maria Burgundy Queen Consort Castile [aged 44] died.

On 28th May 1357 Alfonso "Brave" IV King Portugal [aged 66] died. His son Peter [aged 37] succeeded I King Portugal.
