On 11th August 1325 [his father] Hugh Courtenay 2nd or 10th Earl Devon [aged 22] and [his mother] Margaret Bohun Countess Devon [aged 14] were married. She the daughter of [his grandfather] Humphrey Bohun 4th Earl Hereford 3rd Earl Essex and [his grandmother] Princess Elizabeth of Rhuddlan Countess Essex, Hereford and Holland. He the son of Hugh Courtenay 1st or 9th Earl Devon [aged 48] and Agnes St John Countess Devon [aged 50]. They were fifth cousin once removed. She a granddaughter of King Edward I of England.
In 1346 Peter Courtenay was born to Hugh Courtenay 2nd or 10th Earl Devon [aged 42] and Margaret Bohun Countess Devon [aged 34]. He a great grandson of King Edward I of England.
On 25th February 1355 John Cobham 2nd Baron Cobham [aged 70] died at Cobham, Kent. His son [his brother-in-law] John [aged 34] succeeded 3rd Baron Cobham. [his sister] Margaret Courtenay Baroness Cobham by marriage Baroness Cobham.
On 17th March 1360 [his brother] Archbishop William Courtenay [aged 18] was consecrated Bishop of Hereford.
On 3rd April 1367 the forces of Peter "Cruel" I King Castile [aged 32] commanded by Edward "Black Prince" [aged 36] defeated the army of Henry "Fratricide" II King Castile [aged 33] at the Battle of Nájera at Nájera [Map]. The English forces included John of Gaunt 1st Duke Lancaster [aged 27], William Scrope, Peter Courtenay [aged 21], John Devereux 1st Baron Devereux [aged 30], John Savile of Shelley and Golcar [aged 42], Bernard Brocas [aged 37] and Thomas Banastre [aged 33].
The forces of Henry "Fratricide" II King Castile included Bertrand Geusclin [aged 47]. The battle achieved little since Bertrand Geusclin escaped.
John Ferrers 4th Baron Ferrers of Chartley [aged 36] was killed. His son Robert [aged 9] succeeded 5th Baron Ferrers of Chartley. Margaret Despencer Baroness Ferrers of Chartley by marriage Baroness Ferrers of Chartley.
Edward "Black Prince" thereafter returned home, taking Peter's daughters Constance [aged 13] and Isabella [aged 12] as hostages to ensure Peter would pay the money owed to Edward. Constance married John of Gaunt 1st Duke Lancaster, Isabella married Edmund of Langley 1st Duke of York [aged 25].
On 2nd May 1377 [his father] Hugh Courtenay 2nd or 10th Earl Devon [aged 73] died at Exeter, Devon [Map]. His grandson Edward [aged 20] succeeded 3rd Earl Devon, 6th Baron Okehampton.
On 30th July 1381 [his brother] Archbishop William Courtenay [aged 39] was appointed Archbishop of Canterbury.
On 2nd August 1385 [his sister] Margaret Courtenay Baroness Cobham died.
Around 1389 Peter Courtenay [aged 43] was appointed 79th Knight of the Garter by King Richard II of England [aged 21].
The True Chronicles of Jean le Bel Volume 2 Chapters 61-109 1342-1361
The Chronicle of Jean le Bel, Volume 2 continues one of the most important fourteenth-century accounts of the early Hundred Years’ War. Written by the Liège chronicler Jean le Bel, this vivid narrative follows the fortunes of Edward III, Jean II of France, the Black Prince, the great nobles of France and England, and the soldiers, captains and companies who shaped the conflict. This volume covers some of the most dramatic events of the period, including the battles of Crécy and Poitiers, the siege and capture of Calais, the captivity of King John, the rise of the Jacquerie, the turmoil in Paris under Étienne Marcel and Charles of Navarre, the devastation caused by the free companies, Edward III’s great campaign of 1359–1360, and the negotiations leading to the Treaty of Brétigny. Jean le Bel’s chronicle is especially valuable for its lively detail, its interest in chivalry, warfare, politics and reputation, and its influence on later chroniclers, most famously Froissart. Westminster Chronicle. Also, on the 28th day of May, the English Earl of Nottingham [aged 22] and the Scottish Earl of Moray [aged 48], armed and on horseback, charged against one another six times with very sharp lances; and because in these encounters the Earl of Nottingham bore himself more nobly than the Earl of Moray, praise was awarded to him. In like manner, Lord Peter Courtenay [aged 44], mounted and armed, charged with his cutting lance against a certain knight of Scotland, sufficiently vigorous and valiant, and carried off the laurel. When this had been done, the lord king prohibited such tournaments from being held in his realm, and for certain reasons forbade them entirely.

On 16th December 1391 [his mother] Margaret Bohun Countess Devon [aged 80] died.
On 31st July 1396 [his brother] Archbishop William Courtenay [aged 54] died at Maidstone, Kent [Map]. He was buried in the quire of Canterbury Cathedral [Map].
On 2nd February 1405 Peter Courtenay [aged 59] died. He was buried at the Courtenay Chantry Chapel at Exeter Cathedral [Map].
